Robert „Bob“ Del Tredici war der erste „richtige“ Fotograf, den ich 1987 kennenlernte während meiner Zeit als Artist in residence am Animation Film Department der Concordia University in Montréal. Natürlich kannte ich vorher einige professionelle Fotografinnen und Fotografen – aber keine*n, der/die derart „dedicated“ über lange Zeit ein Thema im Focus der Arbeit hatte, wie er. Bob ist ein Sammler von Animationsfilmen und unterrichtete damals „History of animated film“ an der Concordia University – in seinen Vorlesungen und Seminaren sah ich auch eine volle Ladung mir bis dahin unbekannter Animationsfilme. Robert Del Tredici fotografiert seit 1979 alle Aspekte des Nuklear-Zeitalters. Sein erstes Buch, „The People of Three Mile Island“, befasste sich mit außer Kontrolle geratener Kernkraft. Sein zweites, „At Work in the Fields of the Bomb“, dokumentierte die Atomwaffenindustrie der Vereinigten Staaten. 1987 gründete Del Tredici die „Atomic Photographers Guild“. Er hat das Atombomben-Programm der Sowjetunion dokumentiert und verfasste für das US Department of Energy drei Bücher, die sich mit der Sanierung des amerikanischen Kernwaffenkomplexes beschäftigten. Ausstellungen weltweit. Robert Del Tredici war 2011 Gastprofessor an der Abteilung für Kunst und kommunikative Praxis der Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien unter der Leitung von Barbara Putz-Plecko.

Robert “Bob” Del Tredici was the first “real” photographer I met in 1987 during my time as an artist in residence at the Animation Film Department of Concordia University in Montreal. Of course, I had known several professional photographers before – but none who had focused on a single subject with such dedication over such a long period as he did. Bob is a collector of animated films and was teaching “History of Animated Film” at Concordia University at the time – in his lectures and seminars, I saw a whole host of animated films I hadn’t seen before. Robert Del Tredici has been photographing all aspects of the nuclear age since 1979. His first book, “The People of Three Mile Island,” dealt with nuclear power out of control. His second book, „At Work in the Fields of the Bomb,“ documented the United States‘ nuclear weapons industry. In 1987, Del Tredici founded the Atomic Photographers Guild. He has documented the Soviet Union’s atomic bomb program and authored three books for the U.S. Department of Energy on the rehabilitation of the American nuclear weapons system. His work has been exhibited worldwide. In 2011, Robert Del Tredici was a visiting professor in the Department of Art and Communicative Practice at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, under the direction of Barbara Putz-Plecko.
