Foto li.), das ich 1977 bei einer Wanderung am Strand der Ostsee, zwischen Gdańsk (dt.: Danzig) und der in der Nähe liegenden Stadt Gdynia (dt.: Gdingen) gemacht hatte, bekomme ich immer wieder einen Anflug von Panik bei der Vorstellung, ich würde in diesem engen, rostigen Metallbehälter eingeschlossen sein. Die Aufnahmen des ausgemusterten französischen Sous-marin „ARGONAUTE“ entstanden in La Villette bei Paris 2002 und 2015.

Geheimes akustisches Überwachungssystem im Nord-Atlantik nahm früh Signale einer möglichen Implosion der Tauch-Kapsel auf.

Die Führung der gestern abrupt abgebrochenen Such- und Rettungsmission für das zur Titanic aufgebrochene Tauch-Boot Titan wusste offenbar sehr viel früher vom katastrophalen Ende der Tiefsee-Expedition. Wie das Wall Street Journal berichtet, hatte die US-Marine mittels eines hochgeheimen Überwachungssystems bereits am vergangenen Sonntag entsprechende akustische Signale empfangen und eine “Unregelmäßigkeit” festgestellt, die zu einer Implosion oder Explosion in der Zone passen könnte, in der sich die Titan seinerzeit im Nord-Atlantik befand. Das sagte ein Sprecher der Navy der Zeitung. An jenem Sonntag war knapp zwei Stunden nach dem Tauchgang der kleinen Kapsel, in der fünf Menschen den Tod fanden, der Kontakt zum Mutterschiff Polar Prince abgebrochen. Viele Stunden später erst informierte das Betreiber-Unternehmen Oceangate, dessen CEO Stockton Rush unter den Opfern ist, die US-Küstenwache. Die US-Marine legt Wert auf die Feststellung, dass die führenden Köpfe der über fast fünf Tage gelaufenen Rettungsmission frühzeitig über die Erkenntnisse informiert worden seien. Warum sie nicht öffentlich gemacht wurden, warum bis zuletzt an der These festgehalten wurde, es bestehe eine Rettungsmöglichkeit, wenn man nur rechtzeitig vor der Leerung der auf 96 Stunden begrenzten Sauerstoffvorräte die Titan-Crew bergen kann, ist bisher unklar. Inoffiziell hieß es, die Angaben über eine mögliche frühe Implosion der Tauch-Kapsel in knapp 4000 Meter Tiefe, seien zu vage gewesen, um keine großangelegte Such-Aktion einzuleiten.

The leadership of the search and rescue mission for the Titanic submersible, which was abruptly aborted yesterday, apparently knew much earlier about the catastrophic end of the deep-sea expedition. As reported by the Wall Street Journal, the US Navy, using a top-secret surveillance system, had already received corresponding acoustic signals last Sunday and detected an “irregularity” that could match an implosion or explosion in the zone where the Titan was at the time North Atlantic was located. A Navy spokesman told the newspaper. That Sunday, almost two hours after the dive of the small capsule in which five people died, contact with the mother ship Polar Prince was lost. Many hours later, the operating company Oceangate, whose CEO Stockton Rush is among the victims, informed the US Coast Guard. The US Navy attaches importance to the fact that the leading heads of the rescue mission, which lasted almost five days, were informed about the findings at an early stage.
