Internationale Konferenz der Briefkästen – Symposion der kleinen Dinge. Baden | CH; Camporosso | IT; Kranj | SI; Montréal | CA; Paris | FR; Primošten | HR; Tokyo | JP; Wien | AT · 1988–2023 (© PP · # 2896 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Mein Gefühl wird immer stärker, dass ich es in diesem Leben nicht mehr schaffen werde, auch nur annähernd die Tableaux zusammenzustellen, die sich aufgrund der Materialfülle im Ewigen Archiv anbieten, geradezu aufdrängen. Natürlich könnte ich mir sagen, dass dieses Projekt, mein Lebensprojekt, von Anfang an zum Scheitern verurteilt war: Ewiges Archiv! Ewig und noch einen Tag. Der – zugegeben großartige – Titel „Das Ewige Archiv“, der mir 1980 eingefallen ist, trägt ja bereits in sich, dass es ein groteskes Unterfangen ist. „Eine dynamische Enzyklopädie zeitgenössischer Realitäten“ soll es sein. Nur als Beispiel: im digitalen Tiefspeicher sind unter dem Suchbegriff „Briefkasten“ 145 Fotos verankert bzw. aufzufinden – jedes davon ein Kleinod, manche wohl schlecht fotografiert, unvollständig, aus ödem Blickwinkel oder so, aber aus aller Frauen und Herren Länder (allein zum Thema „Gendern“, „WCs“, „WC-Beschriftungen“ – nur um einige weitere Themen zu nennen) häufen sich die Bilddokumente. Ohne Ende, es ist zum Verzweifeln. Jedes Tableau will aufbereitet und beschriftet werden – ich komme mit dem „Uploaden“ auf die Website des Ewigen Archivs www.ewigesarchiv.at nicht mehr nach. Selbstverschuldetes Arbeitsleid – angesichts der gegenwärtigen Monströsitäten allerdings wohl ein zutiefst lächerliches.

Das große Foto links zeigt einen Briefkasten aus Montréal/Canada, aufgenommen von mir 1988 – erstmals einen Briefkasten gesehen, wie er immer in den Mickey.Mouse-Comics gezeichnet war – vor einem Funeral-Home, daneben ein Briefkasten in Paris, beim Musée de L’Ordre de la Liberation, mit Portraits zweier Widerstandskämpferinnen.

Die anderen Geschichten zu den Fotos spare ich mir heute. Anzeichen einer Erschöpfung.

Of course I could tell myself that this project, my life project, was doomed from the start: Eternal Archive! Forever and one more day. The – admittedly great – title “The Eternal Archive”, which came to my mind in 1980, already shows that it is a grotesque undertaking. “A dynamic encyclopedia of contemporary realities” it should be. Just as an example: 145 photos are anchored or can be found in the deep digital storage under the search term “letterbox” – each of them a gem, some of them probably poorly photographed, incomplete, from a dull perspective or something, but from all over the world (just on the topic “Genders”, “WCs”, “WC labels” – just to name a few other topics), the image documents are piling up. Without end, it is exasperating. Each tableau needs to be prepared and labeled – I can’t keep up with the “upload” to the Eternal Archive’s website www.ewigesarchiv.at. Self-inflicted work suffering – in view of the current monstrosities, however, a deeply ridiculous one.

The large photo on the left shows a mailbox from Montréal/Canada, taken by me in 1988 – the first time I saw a mailbox, as it was always drawn in the Mickey Mouse comics – in front of a funeral home, next to it a mailbox in Paris, at the Musée de L’Ordre de la Liberation, with portraits of two resistance fighters.
I’ll save myself the other stories about the photos today. signs of exhaustion.
