(Un-)Glück mit Ablaufdatum. Berlin | DE; Wien | AT · 2001–2017 (© PP · Ewiges Archiv) Je älter ich werde, umso öfter frage ich mich, wo der Aufdruck mit meinem Ablaufdatum ist – vielleicht habe ich die Mindesthaltbarkeit schon überschritten? Vor wenigen Tagen wollte ich beim Altpapiercontainer einen Karton zerlegen und bin mit einem Fuß draufgesprungen. Der Karton war aber unerwartet stabil und hat mich wie ein Trampolin rücklings auf den Asphalt geschleudert. Der Aufprall wurde durch meinen Bike-Messenger-Rucksack, den ich getragen hatte, etwas gemildert, aber mein Kopf ist doch deutlich „aufgepeppelt“. In dem Bruchteil einer Sekunde, in dem ich durch die Luft geflogen bin, ist mir bewusst geworden, dass ein schwerer Aufprall unvermeidlich ist und dass dieser Sturz schwerste Folgen haben kann. Vergleichbar mit einem Sturz mit dem Fahrrad vor einigen Jahren, bergabfahrend, die Lenkstange nur mit einer Hand haltend, musste ich bremsen und bin kopfüber auf die Straße gestürzt – auch hier war mir sofort klar: unaufhaltsam, unabwendbar.

Wo ist jetzt das Etikett mit dem entscheidenden Datum? Andererseits: muss ich es unbedingt wissen, wann es soweit ist?

A few days ago I wanted to disassemble a cardboard box at the waste paper container and jumped on it with one foot. The carton was unexpectedly stable and threw me backwards onto the asphalt like a trampoline. The impact was somewhat alleviated by the bike messenger backpack I had been carrying, but my head is clearly “spiced up”. In the fraction of a second that I flew through the air, I realized that a heavy impact is inevitable and that this fall can have serious consequences. Comparable to a fall on a bicycle a few years ago, driving downhill, holding the handlebar with only one hand, I had to brake and fell headfirst onto the road – here, too, it was immediately clear to me: unstoppable, inevitable.
Where is the label with the decisive date now? On the other hand: do I absolutely have to know when it is?
