Willkommen im Apfelland. Heiter-besinnliche sonntägliche Schwurbeleien zu Johnny Appleseed von Walt Disney im Kino Ebensee, Obst ohne Kerne und eine kleine, zumindest mich überraschende Anekdote zu Monsanto im Büro einer Wiener PR-Agentur! Amsterdam | NL; Berlin | DE; Elz, Wien | AT; London | UK · 2003– 2020 (© PP · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Vor rund einem Jahr, am 15. März 2020 hab ich ein Apfel-Tableau mit zugehörigem Kurztext aus Anlass des erstenbeginnenden Lockdowns gebastelt (ich denke, damals hieß das noch nicht „Lockdown“), betitelt: „An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away! Alles was jetzt wichtig ist! (zB: Zu-Hause-Bleiben und mehr Münzen in der Hosentasche haben)“ Ein gutes Jahr später ist es so, wie es jetzt ist, darum geht’s mit Äpfeln zum fast Jahrestag weiter. Dem Kino Ebensee verdanke ich sicher meine Initiation zu „Trick-Filmen“, insbesondere Zeichentrick-Filmen. Gut erinnere ich mich an den Walt-Disney-Film „Johnny Appleseed“, (1948), den ich als Volksschüler dort gesehen habe. (Unglaublich, wie stark sich früh gesehene Filme einprägen). Die Geschichte eines Farmers aus der „Pionierzeit“, der hunderte Meilen geht und Apfelbäume pflanzt. Worüber ich schon lange nachdenke, ist, wie das zugeht, dass immer mehr Obst immer weniger Kerne hat? Kernlose Trauben, Äpfel, Melonen etc. Wie vermehrt sich Obst ohne Samen?

Vor einigen Jahren hatte Oswald Oberhuber, in dessen Meisterklasse an der Angewandten ich studiert hatte, eine kleine Ausstellung in den großzügigen Räumlichkeiten einer Wiener PR-/Kommunikations-Was-auch-immer-Agentur. Der Gründer-/Besitzer-/was auch immer war mir peripher bekannt, weil er früher auch die Partei kommunikationsmäßig beraten hatte, die ich öfters gewählt hatte. (Nein, es war nicht die FPÖ). Neugierig, wie ich bin, interessiert, aufgeweckt und ein bisschen unverschämt durchstreifte ich die schnieken Räumlichkeiten. In einem Raum, bei einem großen Regal fiel dann mein investigativer Blick auf eine große Anzahl von dunklen Ordnern, beschriftet mit: Monsanto.

I remember well the Walt Disney film “Johnny Appleseed” (1948), which I saw there as a primary school student. (It’s unbelievable how much early films are memorized). The story of a pioneer farmer who walks hundreds of miles and plants apple trees. What I’ve been thinking about for a long time is how it happens that more and more fruit has fewer and fewer seeds? Seedless grapes, apples, melons, etc. How does fruit reproduce without seeds?
A few years ago Oswald Oberhuber, in whose master class I had studied at the Angewandte, had a small exhibition in the spacious premises of a Vienna PR / communications whatever agency. The founder / owner / whatever was peripherally known to me because he had previously also advised the party on communications that I had often chosen. (No, it wasn’t the FPÖ). Curious as I am, interested, alert and a bit outrageous, I roamed the snazzy premises. In a room, by a large shelf, my investigative gaze fell on a large number of dark folders labeled: Monsanto.
