Tokyo | JP; Wien | AT · 2010–2016 (© PP · # 2165 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Der Studioboden ist fast durchgehend bedeckt von einer meiner Sammlungen, die ich seit Jahren vergeblich versuche, einigermaßen zu ordnen, vom Direktor eines Museums bin ich gebeten worden, einen Ausstellungstext zu schreiben zum Thema, ob ich nach so viel Jahren mit dem „Ewigen Archiv“ überhaupt noch interessiert sei, eine Entwicklung der Gesellschaft wahrzunehmen, die sich nicht fotografieren oder via Instagram-TV übertragen lässt. Was liegt also näher, als das Orakel des Ewigen Archivs zu befragen: Unter dem Stichwort „Sammler_in“ finden sich 295 Einträge, das erste Foto zeigt den Sammler Rudolf Leopold, den Gründer des gleichnamigen Museums im MQ, wie er 2008 am Rande einer Kunstmesse ein Bild betrachtet, das ihm zur Ansicht gezeigt, wohl zum Kauf angeboten wurde. Weitere Fotos habe ich bei den seltenen Einladungen bei veritablen Sammler*innen aufgenommen. Natürlich finden sich unter diesem Begriff auch Sammler*innen, die Container und Mistkübel durchsuchen nach brauchbarem Zeug. Eine Bild-Datenbank wertet nicht, ist keine moralische Anstalt, sie ist ein artifizielles Konstrukt. Ausgangspunkt für dieses Tableau allerdings war das Bild der Eislöffel-Sammlung, das die Architektin Sonja Gasparin bei einem Aufenthalt in Tokyo im Jahr 2016 aufgenommen und mir geschickt hatte.
Wozu sammeln, wenn sich am Ende doch jede Sammlung in Asche auflöst? Die Prämisse, dass das Betrachten, Sinnieren, Reflektieren der Vergangenheit, des Geschehenen irgendeine – potentiell positive, aufklärerische – Auswirkung hätte auf das Handeln in der Gegenwart, vielleicht der Zukunft – diese Annahme, diese Hoffnung muss wohl als final gescheitert angesehen werden. Oder gibt es irgendein Museum, ein Archiv, das dies von sich behaupten könnte? (Ich selbst kenne außer dem Ewigen Archiv keines ;-)
Bei der Vorbereitung auf den eingangs erwähnten Text kam mir der Gedanke, mir die Privat-Insel des Red-Bull Gründers und Co-Eigners Dietrich Mateschitz virtuell anzuschauen – vielleicht fliege ich doch noch hin – oder ich melde mich bei Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos und/oder Richard Benson an für einen Flug zum Mond – äh – zum Mars.

The director of a museum asked me to buy one Writing an exhibition text on the subject of whether, after so many years with the “Eternal Archive”, I am still interested in perceiving a development in society that cannot be photographed or broadcast via Instagram TV. So what could be more obvious than to ask the oracle of the Eternal Archive: Under the keyword “collector” there are 295 entries, the first photo shows the collector Rudolf Leopold, the founder of the museum of the same name in the MQ, as he entered an art fair in 2008 Looked at the picture that was shown to him for viewing, was probably offered for sale. I took more photos for the rare invitations from veritable collectors. Of course, this term also includes collectors who search containers and rubbish bins for useful stuff. An image database does not evaluate, is not a moral institution, it is an artificial construct. The starting point for this tableau, however, was the picture of the ice cream spoon collection that the architect Sonja Gasparin took during a stay in Tokyo in 2016 and sent me.
Why collect when in the end every collection dissolves into ashes? The premise that looking, pondering, reflecting on the past, what happened would have some – potentially positive, enlightening – effect on action in the present, perhaps the future – this assumption, this hope must be seen as a final failure. Or is there any museum, an archive that could make this claim? (I don’t know any other than the Eternal Archive 😉
While preparing for the text mentioned above, the idea occurred to me to take a virtual look at the private island of the Red Bull founder and co-owner Dietrich Mateschitz – maybe I’ll fly there after all – or I’ll get in touch with Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and / or Richard Benson for a flight to the moon – uh – to Mars.
