LIVE FREE OR DIE / I LOVE KREDITE und was die Zahl 88 auf einem Autokennzeichen bedeuten KANN. Je me souviens: Meine schönsten Auto-Kennzeichen. Montréal | CA; New Hampshire | US; Tokyo | JP; Wien | AT; · 1989–2019 (© PP · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Nachdem ich das Ensemble der Kennzeichen, die in einem „Diner“ im ländlichen New Hampshire mit der Zeile „LIVE FREE OR DIE“ hinter einem Aquarium aufgehängt waren, fotografiert hatte (gr. Foto links) und an den Tisch zurückkam, kam die Kellnerin und gab uns unmissverständlich zu verstehen: „You better get going!“ Unser kanadischer Freund Jonathan wusste sofort, was es geschlagen hatte und sprang auf – er wollte nicht riskieren, dass die anwesenden „Rednecks“, die schon böse Blicke auf mich warfen, das Landesmotto in dem als besonders konservativ geltenden Bundesstaat an uns exekutieren. Wesentlich charmanter dagegen der Beipacktext an den Auto-Kennzeichen der kanadischen Provinz Québec: „Je me souviens“ („ich erinnere mich“, gr. Foto re). Eine klare Vorgabe, dass sich alle Bewohner*innen immer bewusst sein mögen, dass sie in einer „distinct society“, also einer francophonen leben! Anglophone und Autochthone: aufgepasst! Besonders gut finde ich, wenn bei den teilweise leicht unbeholfen handgezeichneten Autokennzeichen nach Verlust der Tafel auch auf das Landeswappen nicht vergessen wird. Ich warte noch auf eine DIY-Tafel aus der Steiermark mit den drei Panthern im Landeswappen. Ahja: 88. Der Buchstabe „H“ steht an 8. Stelle im Alphabet, 88 könnte also stellvertretend für „HH“ stehen. Böse Zungen behaupten, dass es auch ein Geheimcode für Neonazis sein und bedeuten könnte: „Heil Hitler“. Davon distanziere ich mich selbstverständlich – vielleicht meint’s einfach „Heilt Hitler“, den Film von Herbert Achternbusch?

Keine Ahnung hingegen habe ich, was 88-88 auf dem Auto-Kennzeichen in Tokyo bedeuten könnte.

Herbert Achternbusch, Heilt Hitler, 1985/86

Montréal | CA; New Hampshire | US; Tokyo | JP; Vienna | AT; · 1989–2019 (© PP · www.ewigesarchiv.at) After I had photographed the ensemble of license plates that were hung behind an aquarium in a “diner” in rural New Hampshire with the line “LIVE FREE OR DIE” (gr . Photo left) and came back to the table, the waitress came and gave us unmistakably to understand: “You better get going!” Our Canadian friend Jonathan knew immediately what had hit and jumped up – he didn’t want to risk those present “Rednecks”, who already threw angry looks at me, execute the state motto in the state that is considered to be particularly conservative. Much more charming, on the other hand, is the enclosed text on the license plates of the Canadian province of Québec: “Je me souviens” (“I remember”, large photo right). A clear requirement that all residents * may always be aware that they live in a “distinct society”, i.e. a francophone! Anglophones and autochthons: watch out! I think it is particularly good if, with the sometimes slightly awkward hand-drawn license plates, the state coat of arms is not forgotten after the plaque is lost. I’m still waiting for a DIY board from Styria with the three panthers in the state coat of arms. Ahja: 88. The letter “H” is in the 8th position in the alphabet, so 88 could stand for “HH”. Evil tongues claim that it could also be a secret code for neo-Nazis and could mean: “Heil Hitler”. I distance myself from that, of course – maybe it just means “Heals Hitler”, the film by Herbert Achternbusch? However, I have no idea what 88-88 on the license plate in Tokyo could mean.
