Soweit mir bekannt, wurde der Begriff „street furniture“ in fotografischem Zusammenhang von Edward Weston erstmals geprägt bzw. verwendet. Er ist im Werk vieler Fotograf*innen von Bedeutung, so zB. bei Ansel Adams, Walker Evans, Robert Frank, Elfie Semotan. Diese und viele andere „notierten“ Objekte, die eine Stadt, einen Lebensbereich auch kennzeichnen: Hydranten, Briefkästen, Straßenschilder, Geschäftsfassaden uvm. Walker Evans plante explizit eine „Street Furniture Serie“.

In Zusammenhang mit Edward Weston sei auf das großartige Werk der aus Udine, Italien stammenden Fotografin Tina Modotti verwiesen, Westons Lebensgefährtin und Modell. „Tina Modotti, eigentlich Assunta Adelaide Luigia Modotti Mondini, (* 16. August 1896 in Udine, Italien; † 6. Januar 1942 in Mexiko-Stadt) war Schauspielerin, Fotografin und Revolutionärin. Ihr gebräuchlicher Rufname Tina ist eine Verkürzung der Koseform Assuntina ihres ersten Vornamens.“ (wiki)

As far as I know, the term “street furniture” was first coined or used in a photographic context by Edward Weston. It is important in the work of many photographers, for example. with Ansel Adams, Walker Evans, Robert Frank, Elfie Semotan. These and many other “noted” objects that also characterize a city, an area of life: hydrants, letter boxes, street signs, shop facades and much more. Walker Evans explicitly planned a “Street Furniture Series”.
In connection with Edward Weston, reference should be made to the great work of the photographer Tina Modotti from Udine, Italy, Weston’s partner and model. “Tina Modotti, actually Assunta Adelaide Luigia Modotti Mondini, (born August 16, 1896 in Udine, Italy, † January 6, 1942 in Mexico City) was an actress, photographer and revolutionary.
