„Spring“ von Cornelius Kolig: Aufforderung zum Selbstmord · “Spring” by Cornelius Kolig: An incitement to suicide

„Spring“ von Cornelius Kolig: „Es ist einfach eine Aufforderung zum Selbstmord: Bringt euch um, bevor ihr die Welt umbringt und mit euch die Welt mitreisst“. Eine Erinnerung aus Anlass der unfassbaren Flutkatastrope in Nepal. Vorderberg | AT · 2008–2024 (Werk © Nachlass C. Kolig · © PP · # 3846 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Der Künstler Cornelius Kolig (1942–2022) hat in seinem ungemein umfangreichen Werk konstant und auf radikale Weise die Zerstörung der Welt und des Lebensraumes thematisiert. Die Installation „Spring“ am Eingangsbereich seiner weitläufigen Anlage „Paradies“ in Vorderberg in Kärnten ist ein Beispiel dafür. In meinem Film „Cornelius Kolig führt durchs Paradies“ (link. s.u.) spricht er dazu: „Das ist ein Gebäude, das nennt sich Headquarter, das ist so wie in einer Firma, man hat ständig dieses Bild eines momentanen Zustandes vor sich und kann dann neue Sachen entwerfen und an den Bestand sozusagen angleichen. Da oben gibt es eine Scheintüre, die nicht wirklich begehbar ist. Man sieht also, wenn der Bewuchs im Winter weg ist, dann sieht man diese Türe. Die führt auf so ein Sprungbrett, wo oben das Wort „Spring“ angebracht ist, das heißt nicht also „Frühling“, sondern heißt wirklich, man soll also runterspringen und sich der Erde zuliebe umbringen. Das heißt also, man spießt sich auf diesem, so wie die Kirche von Heiligenblut aussehenden Objekt auf und gießt dann mit seinem Herzblut diese vier Krenpflanzen.“

Der Schriftzug „Spring“ zwischen den beiden Säulen lädt zum letalen Sprung vom Laufsteg in das Blumenkreuz. Bepflanzung des Kreuzes hat sich immer wieder geändert (gelber Bergginster, Rosen, roter Mohn, Königskerzen). Derzeit weiß blühende und intensiv duftende, tiefwurzelnde Krenpflanzen. Sie werden über Trichter, die den Pfahl umstehen, gegossen. Im Herbst Teile der Krenwurzeln ernten, reiben, essen und dazu (vor der Videokamera) weinen. Betonsäulen wurden ursprünglich als Auflager für Schienen für ein nach hinten aufschiebbares Dach des Headquarters errichtet.“

“Spring” by Cornelius Kolig: “It is simply an incitement to suicide: Kill yourselves before you kill the world and take it with you.” A memorial on the occasion of the unimaginable flood disaster in Nepal. Vorderberg | AT · 2008–2024 (Work © Estate of C. Kolig · © PP · # 3846 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) The artist Cornelius Kolig (1942–2022) consistently and radically addressed the destruction of the world and our habitat in his immensely extensive body of work. The installation “Spring” at the entrance to his sprawling “Paradise” estate in Vorderberg, Carinthia, is one example of this. In my film „Cornelius Kolig Leads You Through Paradise“ (link below), he says: „This is a building called the headquarters. It’s like a company; you constantly have this image of the current state in front of you, and then you can design new things and adapt them to the existing structure, so to speak. Up there, there’s a false door that isn’t actually accessible. So, when the vegetation is gone in winter, you can see this door. It leads to a kind of springboard with the word ‚Spring‘ on it. It doesn’t mean ’spring,‘ but rather that you’re supposed to jump off and kill yourself for the sake of the earth. That is, you impale yourself on this object, which looks like the church in Heiligenblut, and then water these four horseradish plants with your heart’s blood.“

„Spring 1988
The inscription ‚Spring‘ between the two columns invites a lethal leap from the catwalk into the floral cross.“ The planting around the cross has changed repeatedly (yellow broom, roses, red poppies, mullein). Currently, it features deep-rooted, white-flowering, intensely fragrant horseradish plants. They are watered via funnels surrounding the pole. In autumn, parts of the horseradish roots are harvested, grated, eaten, and (in front of the video camera) weep while doing so. The concrete pillars were originally erected as supports for rails for a retractable roof of the headquarters.
