Eine weit verbreitete Definition eines Otakus jemand, der ein Hobby so leidenschaftlich verfolgt, dass er nur noch zu Hause bleibt und sich damit beschäftigt. Oft wird das Wort für Hobbys wie Animes, Mangas und Videospiele verwendet, ist jedoch nicht darauf beschränkt. Ein „Densha Otaku“ ist beispielsweise jemand, der eine große Leidenschaft für Züge hat.

Cosplay (japanisch コスプレ, kosupure) ist eine in Japan geprägte Fanpraxis, die in den 1990er Jahren mit dem Manga- und Animeboom auch in die USA und nach Europa kam. Beim Cosplay stellt der Teilnehmer eine Figur aus Manga, Anime, Film, Videospiel oder anderen Medien durch Kostüm und Verhalten möglichst originalgetreu dar.

Oberstes Gebot beim Fotografieren von Anime-Fans und/oder Cosplay-Spielern ist jedenfalls, vorher zu fragen. Abgesehen davon, dass das generell angebracht ist beim Fotografieren von Personen: Anime- und Manga-Characters haben jeweils ganz spezifische Accessoires, Posen und Gesten, die eingenommen werden wollen vor der Aufnahme.

A common definition of an otakus someone who follows a hobby so passionately that he only stays at home and deals with it. Often the word is used for, but not limited to, hobbies like anime, manga and video games. For example, a “Densha Otaku” is someone who has a great passion for trains.
Cosplay (Japanese コスプレ, kosupure) is a fan-driven Japanese practice that also came to the US and Europe in the 1990s with the Manga and Animeboom. During the cosplay, the participant depicts a character from manga, anime, film, video game or other media through costume and behavior as true to the original as possible.

The top priority when photographing anime fans and / or cosplay players is to ask beforehand. Apart from the fact that this is generally appropriate when photographing people: Anime and manga characters each have very specific accessories, poses and gestures that want to be taken before shooting.
