Die Milch der frommen Denkungsart. / Got milk? Altmünster, Langwies, Wien | AT; London | UK · 1961 – 2015 (© PP · Ewiges Archiv) Anzahl der Bauern in Österreich sinkt. In Österreich ist die Zahl landwirtschaftlicher Betriebe von 1999 bis zum Dezember 2003 um rund 14 % auf 140 600 gesunken.

Das geht aus einer aktuellen Übersicht des Statistischen Amtes der Europäischen Gemeinschaften (Eurostat) hervor. Im Durchschnitt bewirtschafteten die Betriebe eine landwirtschaftliche Nutzfläche von 19,3 ha. Insgesamt beschäftigten die bäuerlichen Betriebe 161 500 Vollzeitarbeitskräfte, wobei auf 40 % der Betriebe weniger als eine Vollzeitarbeitskraft tätig war. Knapp ein Drittel der Betriebsleiter ging einer außerlandwirtschaftlichen Erwerbstätigkeit nach. Auffallend hoch war ist Österreich der Anteil der Biolandwirtschaft mit 12,0 % der Betriebe. Mehr als zwei Drittel der österreichischen Höfe wirtschafteten in benachteiligten Gebieten einschließlich Berggebieten. (www.landwirt.com)

Robert Schabus’ Dokumentarfilm „Bauer unser“ – Produktion: Helmut Grasser, allegro Film – zeigt gleichermaßen ungeschönt wie unaufgeregt wie es auf Österreichs Bauernhöfen zugeht. So vielfältig die gezeigten Bauern, vom Biobauern bis zum konventionellen Agraringenieur, so einhellig ihr Tenor: So wird es nicht weitergehen. Es läuft etwas falsch. Denn es zeigt sich wie Wirtschaftspolitik und Gesellschaft immer öfter vor der Industrie kapitulieren. Es sind keine rosigen Bilder und doch gibt es Momente der Hoffnung. Denn er macht Lust dem Bauern ums Eck einen Besuch abzustatten, bewusst heimische Lebensmittel zu genießen – und auch als Konsument das Bekenntnis abzulegen: „Bauer unser“. This emerges from a current overview of the Statistical Office of the European Communities (Eurostat). The farms farmed an average of 19.3 hectares of agricultural land. The farms employed a total of 161,500 full-time workers, with less than one full-time worker working on 40% of the farms. Almost a third of farm managers were employed outside the agricultural sector. Austria’s share of organic farming was strikingly high at 12.0% of farms. More than two thirds of the Austrian farms operated in disadvantaged areas, including mountain areas. (Www.landwirt.com)
Robert Schabus ’documentary“ Bauer Unser ”- production: Helmut Grasser, Allegro Film – shows both unadorned and unexcited how Austrian farms are. As diverse as the farmers shown, from organic farmers to conventional agricultural engineers, so unanimously their tenor: It will not go on like this. Something is going wrong. Because it shows how economic policy and society increasingly surrender to industry. They are not rosy pictures and yet there are moments of hope. Because it makes you want to visit the farmer around the corner, consciously enjoy local food – and also make a commitment as a consumer: “Our Farmer”.
