Die Mickey-Mouse-Masken und der Germ-Bunkel meiner Oma. Montréal | CA; Wien | AT · 1988–2022 (© PP · # 2619 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Als meine Oma Aloisia Promberger starb, wurde mir erstmals bewusst, dass mit ihrem Tod nicht nur sie selbst aus der Welt „verschwunden“ war, sondern mit ihr neben vielem Anderen auch ihre Rezepte und die Art, wie sie den „Germ-Bunkel“ (immer in der blauen Guglhupf-Form, mit Rosinen) und den „Marmor-Kuchen“ (immer in der braunen Form) machte. Ich bin auch sicher, dass niemand mehr nach ihr die Formen verwendete und diese „Bunkel“ buk – ich schon gar nicht. So viele Geschichten und Schicksale stecken in allen Gegenständen, die mich und uns alle umgeben, so viel Ungesagtes, nicht Festgehaltenes. Natürlich ist es völlig unerheblich, ob irgendjemand weiß, wo die Mickey-Mouse-Masken herkommen, die ich für diese Öl-Pastell-Zeichnung aus dem Jahr 2009 als Vorlage für dieses Stillleben genommen habe, aber sie sind Teil meiner Geschichte und ab und zu „erforsche“ ich für mich die Geschichte der Objekte, die mich beschäftigt haben. Die M-M-Masken stammen aus einem „Konkurs-Laden in Montréal, aus einem „Thrift-Store“, ich habe 1988 einen ganzen Stapel, wahrscheinlich mehr als einhundert Stück gekauft, in dem kleinen Geschäft war ich immer wieder und habe immer wieder Requisiten für meinen Animations-Film „Mont Real“ dort gekauft, nicht nur die Plastik-Masken, sondern auch geflochtene und schön lackierte, wie die rotschwarze Maske, Lichterketten für Weihnachten, Farbgläser wie sie bei Verkehrsampeln verwendet werden und vieles mehr. Alle diese Gegenstände hatten jeweils kurze Auftritte im Film, zB die Masken bemalt mit dem roten Kreuz und der darauf montierten Text-Tafel „History of Animation“ (rechts oben), oder unbemalt auf einer Tageszeitung „U.S. shoots down 2 Libyan jets – Gadhafi say attack unprovoked, wants Security Council meeting“, auf Zeitungsberichten, die mich bewegten und beschäftigten. Einen Teil der bemalten Masken nahm ich zurück nach Österreich und hab immer wieder Freund*innen oder mich selbst damit fotografiert. Eines der beiden Messer auf der Zeichnung hatte mir meine Mutter gegeben, ich verwende es immer noch. So viele unerzählte Geschichten, so viel geht verloren mit dem Tod jedes Menschen.

Montreal | CA; Vienna | AT · 1988–2022 (© PP · # 2619 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) When my grandmother Aloisia Promberger died, I realized for the first time that not only had she “disappeared” from the world with her death, but also with her her recipes and the way she made the “Germ Bunkel” (always in the blue Bundt cake shape, with raisins) and the “Marble Cake” (always in the brown shape). I’m also sure that nobody after her used the molds and baked these “bunkels” – certainly not me. There are so many stories and destinies in all the objects that surround me and all of us, so much that is unsaid, not recorded. Of course, it doesn’t really matter if anyone knows where the Mickey Mouse masks I used for this still life oil pastel drawing from 2009 came from, but they are part of my story and every now and then I “research” for myself the history of the objects that have occupied me. The M-M masks are from a “bankruptcy” store in Montréal, from a “thrift store”, I bought a whole batch in 1988, probably more than a hundred, I’ve been to the little shop on and off and have props for them all the time I bought my animation film “Mont Real” there, not only the plastic masks, but also braided and beautifully painted ones, like the red and black mask, fairy lights for Christmas, colored glasses like those used for traffic lights and much more. All of these items made brief appearances in the film, e.g. the masks painted with the red cross and the text panel “History of Animation” mounted on them (top right), or unpainted on a “U.S. shoots down 2 Libyan jets – Gadhafi say attack unprovoked, wants Security Council meeting,” on newspaper reports that moved and preoccupied me. I took some of the painted masks back to Austria and repeatedly photographed friends or myself with them. My mother gave me one of the two knives in the drawing, and I still use it. So many untold stories, so much is lost with the death of every human being.
