History of Animation. Montréal | CA; Wien | AT · 1988 – 2015 (© PP · Ewiges Archiv). Ich bin schon als ganz kleines Kind mit „Mickey Mouse“-Heftln aufgewachsen. Wirklich: „Mickey Mouse“ und nicht „Micky Maus“ – denn in unregelmäßigen Abständen kamen „aus Amerika“ große Pakete für mich mit rotweiß gestreiften Zuckerstangen, mit großen Spielzeugautos aus Metall(!), Plastikraketen, die mit Druck gestartet werden konnten und eben „Mickey Mouse“-Heftln („Heftln“ sagte meine Oma dazu – natürlich nicht „Hefte“). Ich bin also mit Comics sozialisiert worden – lange, bevor ich lesen konnte – das hat nachhaltige Wirkung bis jetzt: Ich lese in gedruckter Form fast ausschließlich „Graphic Novels“, von denen ich viele zeichnerisch und inhaltlich unglaublich gut finde und die erstaunliche Themen behandeln. 1988/89 war ich artist in residence an der Concordia University in Montréal und arbeitete am Film „Mont Real“ – einer Mischung aus Live-Action und Animation. Für den Abschnitt „History of Animation“ verwendete ich eine große Anzahl von unbemalten, also weißen Mickey Mouse Masken, die ich in einem Konkurswaren-Geschäft gekauft hatte und bemalte sie.

Der erste Animationsfilm, in dem Mickey Mouse „auftrat“, war übrigens „Steamboat Willie“.

Really: “Mickey Mouse” and not “Mickey Mouse” – because at irregular intervals came “from America” large packages for me with red and white striped candy canes, with large toy cars made of metal (!), Plastic rockets that could be launched with pressure and just “Mickey Mouse” -Heftln (“Heftln” said my grandma – of course not “books”). So I’ve been socialized with comics – long before I could read – that has lasting impact so far: I read almost exclusively “graphic novels” in print, many of which I think are incredibly good both in terms of graphics and content, and cover the amazing topics. In 1988/89, I was an artist in residence at Concordia University in Montréal and worked on the film “Mont Real” – a mix of live action and animation. For the History of Animation section, I used a large number of unpainted white Mickey Mouse masks that I bought at a bankruptcy store and painted them.
The first animated movie in which Mickey Mouse “appeared” was “Steamboat Willie.”
