Das Ewige Licht leuchte mir / Shine the eternal light on me: Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony and the „Video (that) Shows Raid That Killed ISIS Leader Al-Baghdadi“ Amsterdam | NL; Montreal | CA (Rembrandt: © Rijksmuseum; Ausstellungsansichten, Fotos © PP · Ewiges Archiv) Vor Rembrandts „Lezende oude vrouw (profetes)“ / „Lesende alte Frau (Prophetin)“ stehend, das er 1655 gemalt hat, dachte ich an die Reflexionen der strahlenden Displays auf Gesichtern. Das im Gemälde von rechts oben auf die Lesende fallende Licht wird stark von den Seiten des Buches auf ihr Gesicht reflektiert, ihre Bedeutung als Prophetin, als Seherin wird so dramatisch hervorgehoben. Wie sehe ich die Welt, wie wird sie mir vermittelt? Durch wieviele Zwischenstufen, digitale Waschmaschinen, Medien, Bilder, Videos erfahre ich etwas über die Ereignisse rund um mich, welche Erkenntnisse kann ich daraus gewinnen? Kann ich überhaupt „sehen“? Das sind seit Langem die Grundfragen, die mich im Ewigen Archiv, diesem bescheidenen Selbstversuch, beschäftigen. Das große Foto rechts oben zeigt im Display des „Smart-Phones“ die „Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony“ im Japanischen Garten des Botanischen Gartens von Montreal, die alljährlich dort zur Erinnerung an den Abwurf der Atombombe auf Hiroshima am 6. August stattfindet: „Pünktlich zum Abwurf der Atombombe auf Hiroshima (1945) am Morgen des 6. August (japanische Zeit) findet in Montreal am 5. August die Friedenszeremonie zum Hiroshima-Denkmal statt. Der japanische Generalkonsul und der Stadtrat und stellvertretende Bürgermeister läuteten die Friedensglocke, die Hiroshima anlässlich ihrer Städtepartnerschaft nach Montreal schenkte, zu Ehren der Opfer der Atombombe. Montreal und Hiroshima sind seit 1998 Partnerstädte. “ (General Konsulat von Japan in Montreal).

Vor einigen Tagen wurde vom Pentagon ein Video vom Angriff auf den IS-Anführers Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi veröffentlicht. Erstaunlich ruhige, stabilisierte SW-Aufnahmen, aus großer Höhe – wie eine Live-Übertragung. Wir alle können zusehen, wie Bomben abgeworfen werden. Vermittelte „Wirklichkeit“, auf youtube rund um die Uhr abrufbar.

The light falling on the reader in the painting from the upper right is strongly reflected on the pages of the book on her face, her meaning as a prophetess, as a seer is so dramatically highlighted. How do I see the world, how is it conveyed to me? By how many intermediate stages, digital washing machines, media, pictures, videos, I learn something about the events around me, what insights can I gain from it? Can I even “see”? These have long been the basic questions that occupy me in the Eternal Archive, this modest self-experiment. The large photo at the top right shows the “Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony” in the Japanese Garden of the Montreal Botanical Garden on the display of the “Smart Phone” held annually on 6th August to commemorate the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima: “On time to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima (1945) on the morning of August 6 (Japanese time), the Peace Ceremony for the Hiroshima Memorial will take place in Montreal on August 5. The Japanese Consul General and the city council and deputy mayors rang the peace bell that Hiroshima donated to Montreal on the occasion of their sister city partnership in honor of the victims of the atomic bomb.
