Ausflüge ins Grabsteinland. Ebensee, Villach, Wien | AT; Toscana | IT · 2010–2016 (© PP · Ewiges Archiv) Ausgehend vom Schriftmuster-Grabstein eines Steinmetzes (gr. Foto re.) wollte ich ein Tableau über Grabstein-Beschriftungen zusammenstellen: Um seinen Kund*innen die Entscheidung für eine Schrift-Type zu erleichtern, hatte er „Handentworfen und handgraviert“ Musterschriften in den Stein graviert, gehauen und koloriert, von der klassischen Antiqua über BLOCKSCHRIFT, Rustica, Lateinschrift, Unziale, Modern bis zu „gegründelt“ (den Begriff kannte ich als Grafiker bisher nicht) und Kremser Gotik.

Fast schon fertig mit der Zusammenstellung, habe ich dann allerdings das Tableau neu begonnen und vor allem Inschriften ausgewählt, die ich am KZ-Friedhof in Ebensee gesehen und fotografiert hatten, die mich damals wie heute tief erschütterten und bewegen – und die für sich stehen sollen.

Übersetzungen: obere Reihe, 2. v. li.: Nencione Giuseppe, deportiert, hier litt er und starb 6. 4. 1945 für die Freiheit und die Würde der Menschen; 3. v. li.: Für meinen Ehemann, für meinen Vater Pierre de Rooster, 6. März 1945, 32 jährig gestorben für Frankreich. Gr. Foto li.: Cordelli Duilio, von Cerreto Guidi, Firenze. Starb hier am 8. 4. 1944 in diesem berüchtigten Vernichtungslager, das von Hitlers Nationalsozialisten mit Unterstützung der Faschisten von Mussolini errichtet wurde. Mögen sich die Völker der ganzen Welt daran erinnern – denn das soll sich nie wiederholen.
