Fan Art: Ventilatoren in der Kunst. Auch Kunst will, besser: muss gekühlt werden. Berlin | DE; Wien | AT · 2009–2026 (© PP · # 3825 · www.ewigesarchiv.at). Andererseits: Im gestrigen Mail von „Ärzte ohne Grenzen“ steht: „Heiß, heißer, Dürre in Somalia. Lieber Herr Putz, wir hoffen, Sie kommen gut durch die andauernde Hitzewelle in Österreich. Diese Temperaturen sind für viele schwer zu ertragen. Heiße Tage verändern unseren Alltag, machen müde, lassen uns langsamer werden. Wir versuchen, uns abzukühlen, suchen Schatten und trinken mehr Wasser. Die Hitze ist belastend – doch wir können Wege finden, uns zu schützen. In Somalia und Äthiopiens Somali-Region ist das anders. Dort sind vier Regenzeiten in Folge ausgeblieben und Millionen Menschen stehen am Rand des Überlebens. . . “

Wo ist jetzt genau Somalia? Werde ich mich entschließen, 50 oder 70 € zu überweisen?

Zu den Fotos: Den „Windmaster“ – ein schweres Gerät – hatte ich vor etwa 25 Jahren für mein damaliges Studio in der Liechtensteinstraße gekauft. Auf höchster Stufe wurden die Tapeten von der Wand gerissen, auf der kleinsten die Papiere vom Studiotisch geweht (Wien, 2009). Habe ich an meinen späteren Studionachbarn um € 30 verkauft; Installation bei Kunstmesse, Wien, 2012; Zwei Ventilatoren vertikal übereinander an der Wand montiert, hielten ein dünnes Band in Schweben. On the other hand: Yesterday’s email from ‘Médecins Sans Frontières’ reads: ‘Hot, hotter, drought in Somalia. Dear Mr Putz, we hope you are coping well with the ongoing heatwave in Austria. These temperatures are hard for many to bear. Hot days disrupt our daily lives, make us tired and slow us down. We try to cool down, seek shade and drink more water. The heat is a strain – but we can find ways to protect ourselves. In Somalia and Ethiopia’s Somali region, the situation is different. There, four consecutive rainy seasons have failed to materialise and millions of people are teetering on the brink of survival. . . “

Where exactly is Somalia? Will I decide to transfer €50 or €70?

Regarding the photos: I bought the ‘Windmaster’ – a heavy piece of equipment – about 25 years ago for my studio on Liechtensteinstraße at the time. Set to the highest speed, it tore the wallpaper off the wall; at the lowest setting, it blew the papers off the studio desk (Vienna, 2009). I sold it to my later studio neighbour for €30; installation at an art fair, Vienna, 2012; two fans mounted vertically one above the other on the wall kept a thin ribbon suspended in mid-air.
