März 2022 gab das deutsche Bundesverteidigungsministerium die Beschaffung von 35 Stück Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II, ein Tarnkappen-Mehrzweckkampfflugzeug der fünften Generation, bekannt. Stückpreis ca. 90 Millionen US $ (Die angegebenen Kosten beziehen sich auf den Systempreis, nicht auf die „Flyaway“-Kosten, schreibt wikipedia, was immer das heißen mag.) Werden zusätzlich zu 15 Eurofightern des Typs „ECR“ angeschafft.

Tarnkappenflugzeuge
Tarnkappenflugzeug oder Stealthflugzeug ist die Bezeichnung für ein militärisches Flugzeug, das die Tarnkappentechnik nutzt. Dies geschieht mittels besonderer geometrischer Formgebung und der Oberflächenbeschaffenheit, so dass das Flugzeug für ein gegnerisches Radar nur auf kurze Distanzen (30 % der normalen Radarreichweite beispielsweise beim F-117 Nighthawk bei sowjetischen Radarsystemen von vor 1990) zu erfassen ist.

Die Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II ist ein Tarnkappen-Mehrzweckkampfflugzeug der fünften Generation, das aus dem Joint Strike Fighter-Programm (JSF) des US-Verteidigungsministeriums hervorgegangen ist. Es soll in vielen westlichen Luftwaffen die F-16 Fighting Falcon oder noch ältere Flugzeuge ersetzen, wobei die US Air Force weiterhin der mit Abstand größte Abnehmer bleibt. Für sie ist es bereits das vierte beschaffte Tarnkappen-Muster; da die Vorgänger F-117, B-2 und F-22 Raptor jedoch nicht exportiert wurden, ist es für die Partnerländer das erste seiner Art. Das Kampfflugzeug wird in den drei Varianten F-35A (konventioneller Start/Landung), F-35B (Senkrechtstart und -landung) und F-35C (trägergestützt) bereitgestellt.
Am 14. März 2022 gab das (deutsche) Bundesverteidigungsministerium die Beschaffung der F-35 bekannt. Geplant sei der Kauf von insgesamt 35 Flugzeugen des Typs „F-35A“ neben 15 Eurofightern des Typs „ECR“.

The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is a fifth-generation stealth multirole fighter aircraft that emerged from the United States Department of Defense’s Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program. It is intended to replace the F-16 Fighting Falcon or even older aircraft in many western air forces, with the US Air Force remaining by far the largest customer.
