Jährlich fallen in Österreich mehr als 115.000 Tonnen Alttextilien an. Etwa 70.000 Tonnen wandern direkt in den Restmüll. Mehr als 40.000 Tonnen werden gesammelt, allein in Wien sind es an die 10.000 Tonnen. Und der Altkleiderberg wächst weiter. ExpertInnen gehen von einem jährlichen Plus von zehn Prozent aus. Der Grund: Die Modebranche wird immer schneller. Gab es früher eine Frühjahr/Sommer- und eine Herbst/Winterkollektion, wechseln die Kollektionen mittler- weile in immer kürzeren Abständen. Derzeit kommt jeden Monat neue Mode in die Läden, Billiglabels setzen auf 52 Mikrosaisonen im Jahr.

Zwischen 2000 und 2015 hat sich die weltweite Textilproduktion ver- doppelt. Jahr für Jahr werden mehr als hundert Milliarden Kleidungs- stücke fabriziert. Fast Fashion wird dieses Geschäft mit der Wegwerf- mode genannt. Es steht für Beschleunigung und hat den Typus des/ der schnellen ModekonsumentIn hervorgwebracht. Qualitativ minder- wertige Materialien werden weltweit zu Niedrigpreisen verkauft.

More than 115,000 tons of used textiles accumulate in Austria every year. About 70,000 tons go straight into the residual waste. More than 40,000 tons are collected, in Vienna alone there are around 10,000 tons. And the mountain of old clothes keeps growing. Experts assume an annual increase of ten percent. The reason: the fashion industry is getting faster and faster. Whereas there used to be a spring/summer and an autumn/winter collection, the collections are now changing at ever shorter intervals. New fashion is currently hitting the stores every month, and cheap labels rely on 52 micro-seasons a year.
Global textile production doubled between 2000 and 2015. More than a hundred billion pieces of clothing are manufactured every year. This business with disposable fashion is called fast fashion. It stands for acceleration and has created the type of fast fashion consumer. Inferior quality materials are sold worldwide at low prices.
