Cornelius Kolig – Alles Gute zum 80. Geburtstag! <3 Vorderberg | AT · 2015–2022 (© PP · # 2554 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Danke für ein unglaublich umfangreiches und wichtiges Werk, das mich seit mehr als 40 Jahren immer wieder aufs Neue in Erstaunen versetzt und inspiriert! Seit ich Anfang der 1970-er Jahre im „20-er Haus“, dem damaligen Museum für moderne Kunst im Schweizergarten (heute Belvedere 21) erstmals eine Ausstellung von Cornelius Kolig sah, beschäftigen mich Person und Werk. In seinem „Paradies“ in Vorderberg in Kärnten, dem weitläufigen Areal und Gebäudekomplex, in dem er seit 1979 seine Objekte, Installationen, Malereien versammelt, gibt es eine Vielzahl von Artefakten, die sich mit den Grundelement unserer Existenz auseinandersetzen. Über sein Werk habe ich zahlreiche Tableaux zusammengestellt und das Video „Cornelius Kolig und das Paradies“ veröffentlicht. Derzeit ist das neue Video „Cornelius Kolig führt durchs Paradies“ in Postproduktion. Schnitt und digitale Produktion: Moni Parii, Kamera: Patrick Spanbauer, beide: On Screen. Cornelius Kolig im Video zur hier gezeigten Arbeit: „Vor den Objekten an der Wand sieht man die Inschrift „GOD SAVE THE QUEEN“ – gemeint ist natürlich nicht die englische Königin, sondern die Bienenkönigin. An der Wand sieht man sowas wie ein Inhaltsverzeichnis des Paradieses, ein bildliches. Mit der vergoldeten Mamille . . . Darüber sieht man ein von der Wand abstehendes Blech, am Ende des Blechs befinden sich zwei Schwalbennester, die durch den Bewuchs derzeit nicht sichtbar sind. Also es werden die Tiere, soweit es geht, mit einbezogen ins Paradies . . .“

Ever since I first saw an exhibition by Cornelius Kolig in the “20er Haus”, the former museum for modern art in the Schweizergarten (now Belvedere 21), in the early 1970s, I have been interested in the person and the work. In his “paradise” in Vorderberg in Carinthia, the extensive area and building complex in which he has been collecting his objects, installations and paintings since 1979, there are a large number of artefacts that deal with the basic elements of our existence. I have compiled numerous tableaux about his work and published the video “Cornelius Kolig and Paradise”. The new video “Cornelius Kolig leads through paradise” is currently in post-production. Cornelius Kolig in the video for the work shown here: “In front of the objects on the wall you can see the inscription “GOD SAVE THE QUEEN” – of course not the English queen is meant, but the queen bee. On the wall you can see something like a table of contents of paradise, a pictorial one. With the gilded mamilla. . . Above you can see a metal sheet protruding from the wall, at the end of the metal sheet there are two swallows’ nests, which are currently not visible due to the vegetation. So the animals are, as far as possible, included in paradise. . .”
