Werbestar am Grand Canyon und Dinner bei Kentucky Fried Chicken. Arizona | US · 1985 (© PP · Ewiges Archiv) Bei einer Reise durch Arizona konnte ich beim Grand Canyon nicht widerstehen, für eine „Werbeaufnahme“ zu posieren – genauer: für einen „Packshot“ mit o’tonic Duschgel. (Zur Sicherheit: ;-) ironisch gemeinter privat joke). Produktwerbung war mir damals schon suspekt und geht mir heute noch viel mehr auf den Keks.) Grand Canyon und das im Grenzbereich Arizona und Utah gelegene Monument Valley sind beliebte Locations für Western und Werbeaufnahmen. In der Ödnis auf dem Weg zu einem Weather Dance Ritual der Natives, bei dem Fotografieren streng verboten war, hielten wir beim einzig verfügbaren Lokal: Kentucky Fried Chicken. Feinste Resopal-Tische, Halbdunkel im Loka. Ich bestellte „Chicken Wings“ und „Cole Slaw“ und bekam alles in einer Schachtel mit div. Beigaben. Die erstmalige Begegnung mit purem Fast-Food beeindruckte mich nachhaltig, für das Dokumentarfoto bin ich mir dankbar. Anschließend schwerer, tagelang anhaltender Durchfall bei mir und Begleitung.

Der Grand Canyon [grænd ˈkænjən] ist eine steile, etwa 450 Kilometer lange Schlucht im Norden des US-Bundesstaats Arizona, die während Jahrmillionen vom Colorado River ins Gestein des Colorado-Plateaus gegraben wurde. Der Canyon zählt zu den großen Naturwundern auf der Erde, 2018 wurde er von über sechs Millionen Menschen besucht. Er liegt größtenteils im Grand-Canyon-Nationalpark, der seit 1979 zum Weltnaturerbe in den Vereinigten Staaten gehört.

Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) ist ein auf Geflügel spezialisiertes US-amerikanisches Fast-Food-Franchise-Systemgastronomie-Unternehmen, das zu Yum! Brands gehört. Mit über 20.000 Restaurants gehört es zu den weltweit größten Restaurantketten.

Arizona | US · 1985 (© PP · Eternal Archives) On a trip through Arizona at the Grand Canyon I couldn’t resist posing for an “advertising shot” – more precisely: for a “packshot” with o’tonic shower gel. (To be on the safe side: 😉 ironically meant private joke). I was already suspicious of product advertising back then, and today I piss me off a lot more.) Grand Canyon and Monument Valley, located on the border between Arizona and Utah, are popular locations for westerns and advertising shoots. In the wasteland on the way to a weather dance ritual by the natives, in which photography was strictly prohibited, we stopped at the only restaurant available: Kentucky Fried Chicken. The finest Formica tables, semi-dark in the Loka. I ordered “Chicken Wings” and “Cole Slaw” and got everything in a box with various additions. The first encounter with pure fast food made a lasting impression on me, and I’m grateful for the documentary photo. Then severe diarrhea that lasted for days with me and my companion.
