Verfolgungsjagd und Brückensprengung: „Agenten sterben einsam“ / „Where Eagles Dare“. Das Geheimnis der „Clint Eastwood – Richard Burton-Brücke“. Weißenbachtal | AT · 1968–2019 (© filmstills: MGM; Brücke neu: © Gerhard Carl Moser; Tableau: © PP · Ewiges Archiv) Vor mehr als 50 Jahren wurden in Ebensee und im Weißenbachtal Sequenzen eines Action-Films gedreht. Eine dramatische Verfolgungsjagd zwischen den in einem Bus davonrasenden britischen Agent*innen, verfolgt von deutschen Kommandos wurde im Weißenbachtal inszeniert. Weil die Freiwillige Feuerwehr Langwies dort Löschschaum als Schnee-Ersatz aufsprühte und die Väter von Freunden Mitglieder der FFL waren, konnte ich einmal dorthin mitfahren und die Aufnahmen beobachten – insbesondere den vom Special Effects-Team durchlöcherten roten Bus mit einem Schneepflug vorne dran. Bei den Dreharbeiten kam es zu einem tragischen Zwischenfall: Der von Stuntmen gefahrene Bus kam auf dem Löschschaum ins Schleudern und schlitterte in ein Kamerateam, dabei wurde ein Camera-Operator getötet, andere Mitarbeiter schwer verletzt. (In den Originalcredits wurde der ums Leben gekommene Kameramann erwähnt, auf der DVD fehlen die Schlusscredits).

Reihe links: der Bus prescht ganz knapp an der Kamera vorbei – eine ähnliche Szene muss dem oben erwähnten tragischen Zwischenfall vorangegangen sein (oder: es war möglicherweise die dabei aufgenommene Einstellung); rechts: Clint Eastwood hat in letzter Sekunde eine Brücke vermint, die Verfolger haben bei der Annäherung den Fangdraht zerrissen und die Sprengung ausgelöst

3. Reihe links: völlige Zerstörung der Brücke; rechts die vor kurzem offenbar neu erbaute „Clint Eastwood – Richard Burton-Brücke“ – entdeckt und fotografiert von Gerhard Carl Moser.

A dramatic chase between the British agents running away in a bus, pursued by German commandos, was staged in the Weißenbachtal. Because the Freiwillige Feuerwehr Langwies sprayed extinguishing foam there as a snow substitute and the fathers of friends were members of the FFL, I was once able to ride there and watch the pictures – especially the red bus with a snowplow perforated by the special effects team. During the shooting, there was a tragic incident: The bus driven by stuntmen skidded on the extinguishing foam and slid into a camera team, while a camera operator was killed, other employees seriously injured. (In the original credits the killed cameraman was mentioned, on the DVD missing the final credits).
