Schnee von vorgestern. Eine Abberation vor der Hitze des Tages, ausgelöst durch einen überraschenden (Bilder-)Fund. Langwies | AT · 2012 (© PP · # 3819 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Wieder einmal dem wabernden Gefühl nachgebend, dereinst, heute, morgen oder eben irgendwann sterben zu müssen, in das Suchfeld der KI-Bildersuch-Software die Phrase „Das letzte Hemd hat keine Taschen“ eingegeben. Unter den exakt 360 vom Programm vorgeschlagenen Bildern (die Anzahl ist frei wählbar) eines, das ich nicht zuordnen konnte und das nicht beschlagwortet war. Das kommt unter den derzeit 607.810 in der Bilderdatenbank gespeicherten Aufnahmen immer wieder vor. Ein nicht beschlagwortetes, nicht „eingepflegtes“ Foto ist Datenmüll, kann über herkömmliche Suche nicht gefunden werden, ist im Daten-Orkus verschwunden. Über dieses, kein klares Sujet zeigende Bild wurde ich zu einem Ordner geführt mit weiteren 375 Fotos, die ich zwischen dem 26. und 29. Oktober 2012 in Langwies aufgenommen hatte, dem Ort, in dem ich aufgewuchs. (Rechts oben: meine Mutter schaut auf den überraschend gefallenen Schnee).

Wozu überhaupt fotografieren? Wozu Fotos aufbewahren, warum sie ordnen, sie zusammenstellen, darüber nachdenken? Warum diese Zusammenstellung und diesen kurzen Text auf FB veröffentlichen? Warum dieses Tableau und den kurzen Text, beschlagwortet, datiert, auf die Website des Ewigen Archivs www.ewigesarchiv.at hochladen?

Langwies | AT · 2012 (© PP · # 3819 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Once again yielding to the nagging feeling that I might have to die one day – today, tomorrow or just at some point – I typed the phrase ‘You can’t take it with you’ into the search bar of the AI image search software. Among the exact 360 images suggested by the programme (the number can be chosen freely), there was one that I couldn’t place and which had no tags. This happens time and again amongst the 607,810 images currently stored in the image database. A photo that is not tagged and has not been ‘catalogue’d’ is data rubbish; it cannot be found via conventional search and has vanished into the data abyss. This image, which shows no clear subject, led me to a folder containing a further 375 photos that I had taken between 26 and 29 October 2012 in Langwies, the place where I grew up. Why take photographs at all? Why keep photos, why organise them, compile them, reflect on them? Why publish this compilation and this short text on Facebook? Why upload this tableau and the short text – tagged and dated – to the Eternal Archive website www.ewigesarchiv.at?
