Internationaler Frauentag (englisch International Women’s Day, kurz IWD), Weltfrauentag, (Internationaler) Frauenkampftag oder kurz Frauentag sind Namen eines Welttags, der jährlich am 8. März begangen wird. Er entstand als Initiative sozialistischer Organisationen in der Zeit vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg im Kampf um die Gleichberechtigung, das Wahlrecht für Frauen sowie die Emanzipation von Arbeiterinnen. Erstmals fand der Frauentag am 19. März 1911 statt. 1921 wurde sein Datum durch einen Beschluss der Zweiten Internationalen Konferenz kommunistischer Frauen in Moskau endgültig auf den 8. März gelegt.

Dieses Datum wählten auch die Vereinten Nationen (UN) im Internationalen Jahr der Frau 1975 zum „Tag der Vereinten Nationen für die Rechte der Frau und den Weltfrieden“ und richteten dazu erstmals am 8. März 1975 eine Feier aus. Mitte 1975 wurde dann in Mexiko-Stadt die erste UN-Weltfrauenkonferenz abgehalten und es folgte die „UN-Dekade der Frau“ (1976–1985).

International Women’s Day (IWD), International Women’s Day, (International) Women’s Struggle Day or Women’s Day for short are the names of a world day that is celebrated annually on March 8. It originated as an initiative of socialist organizations in the period before the First World War in the fight for equal rights, the right to vote for women and the emancipation of female workers. Women’s Day took place for the first time on March 19, 1911. In 1921, its date was finally set to March 8 by a resolution of the Second International Conference of Communist Women in Moscow.
This date was also chosen by the United Nations (UN) in the International Year of Women 1975 as the “United Nations Day for Women’s Rights and World Peace” and a celebration was held for the first time on March 8, 1975. The first UN World Conference on Women was then held in Mexico City in mid-1975 and was followed by the “UN Decade of Women” (1976-1985).
