Oliver Ressler: Dog Days Bite Back im Belvedere 21 – Nur noch bis 2. Juni 2024. Empfehlung! Wien | AT · 2024 (Werk © Oliver Ressler; © PP · # 3173 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Für mich eine der wesentlichsten Ausstellungen in diesem Jahr. Ich bin beeindruckt vom langandauernden, tiefgehenden Engagement und den starken Arbeiten des Künstlers. „Oliver Resslers künstlerisch-aktivistischer Praxis liegt die Überzeugung zugrunde, dass gesellschaftliche Verhältnisse nicht gegeben, sondern vielmehr veränderbar sind. Seit etwa drei Jahrzehnten nimmt Ressler dringliche Aspekte von Demokratie, Ökonomie, Migration und Ökologie in den Blick, um strukturelle Ursachen, aber auch Widerstandsformen und Handlungsoptionen aufzuzeigen. Gesellschaftliche Alternativen denkbar zu machen, ist dabei ein zentrales Motiv.

Die Werkschau Dog Days Bite Back versammelt filmische und fotografische Arbeiten der letzten Jahre, die verschiedene Dimensionen der Klimakrise in ihrer ökonomischen, politischen und sozialen Komplexität adressieren und mit international agierenden Klimagerechtigkeitsbewegungen verschränken. So bringt Ressler die inzwischen weltweit spürbaren Effekte des Klimakollaps in Zusammenhang mit systematischen klimapolitischen Verfehlungen und dem überfälligen Paradigmenwechsel in globalen Wirtschaftssystemen.“

I am impressed by the artist’s long-lasting, profound commitment and strong works. “Oliver Ressler’s artistic-activist practice is based on the conviction that social conditions are not given, but rather can be changed. For around three decades, Ressler has been focussing on urgent aspects of democracy, the economy, migration and ecology in order to highlight structural causes as well as forms of resistance and options for action. Making social alternatives conceivable is a central motif.
The Dog Days Bite Back exhibition brings together film and photographic works from recent years that address various dimensions of the climate crisis in its economic, political and social complexity and interweave them with international climate justice movements. Ressler thus links the effects of climate collapse, which can now be felt worldwide, with systematic climate policy failures and the overdue paradigm shift in global economic systems.”
