Nikola Tesla, Mike Teslas Doppelwhopper und der Tesla-Punk. Wien | AT · 1998–2023 (© PP · # 3243 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Die Energie- und Elektrizitäts-Experimente des 1856 in Smiljan, Kroatische Miltärgrenze im damaligen Kaisertum Österreich geborenen Forschers und Erfinders Nikola Tesla waberten Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts immer wieder da und dort auch in der Kunstszene auf. Die drei grob gepixelten Fotos auf der linken Seite dieses Tableaus entstanden bei einer „Tesla-Performance“ des US-Amerikanischen Künstlers Schwartz am 19. Juni 1998 im Museumsquartier – allerdings war die Vorführung nur eingeschränkt möglich, weil beim Transport des Equipments aus den USA ein wesentlicher Kondensator zerbrochen war – also keine der erwarteten riesigen Blitz-Explosionen. Das kleine Foto links unten stammt aus einer Vorführung im Technischen Museum im Jahr 2013. Das erste Mal ein „Tesla-Auto“ sah ich etwa um 2005 in Paris, als ich dort zu einem Vortrag über das Ewige Archiv eingeladen war. Soweit ich mich erinnern kann – ich habs ganz sicher fotografiert, aber offensichtlich die Bilder nicht ordnungsgemäß in der Bilddatenbank „eingepflegt“, drum finde ich sie nicht im schwarzen Datenloch – stand ein „Tesla“-Auto vor einem eher kleinen Präsentationslokal. Wie die Automarke es geschafft hat – insbesondere auch: von wem – die Namensrechte für „Tesla“ zu kaufen, ist ein eigenes Thema. Über die vielen eingebauten Video-Überwachungskameras in den Tesla-Autos habe ich schon vor Jahren ein Tableau zusammengestellt – siehe die beiden Fotos unten Mitte und den Link zu „Die sechs Kameras des TESLA“. Interessant fand ich das Wunschkennzeichen „PUNK 1“ auf einem roten Tesla (möglicherweise von einem Herrn mit steil aufgegeltem Haar, der sich in mir zwangsweise auf youtube immer wieder vorgeschalteten Werbespots als „Investment-Punk“ bezeichnet. Immer wenn dieser Spot auftaucht, kann ich nicht schnell genug den Ton wegschalten. Und natürlich: LXRY 1 wem LUXURY gebührt, ganz klar. Das Foto rechts unten taucht auch auf, wenn ich den Begriff „Tesla“ in die Bilddatenbank eingebe – offensichtlich ist direkt neben dem LXRY-Tesla ein kleiner Spatz gesessen, der mich dann mindestens so interessiert hat, wie das Auto, das ich nicht einmal geschenkt fahren, geschweige denn besitzen möchte.

Die Veröffentlichung von Kennzeichen erfolgt ausschließlich in künstlerisch-/dokumentarischem Zusammenhang und impliziert keinerlei darüber hinausgehende Wertung.

Vienna | AT – 1998-2023 (© PP – # 3243 – www.ewigesarchiv.at) The energy and electricity experiments of the researcher and inventor Nikola Tesla, born in 1856 in Smiljan, Croatian Military Frontier in what was then the Austrian Empire, kept popping up here and there in the art scene at the end of the 20th century.The three roughly pixelated photos on the left of this tableau were taken during a “Tesla performance” by the US-American artist Schwartz on 19 June 1998 in the Museumsquartier – however, the performance was only possible to a limited extent because a major capacitor had broken during transport of the equipment from the USA – so none of the expected huge lightning explosions. The small photo at the bottom left is from a demonstration at the Technical Museum in 2013. The first time I saw a “Tesla car” was around 2005 in Paris, when I was invited to a lecture on the Eternal Archive. As far as I can remember – I certainly took a photo, but obviously didn’t “enter” the pictures properly in the image database, so I can’t find them in the black data hole – there was a “Tesla” car in front of a rather small presentation venue. How the car brand managed to buy the naming rights for “Tesla” – and in particular from whom – is a topic in itself. I compiled a tableau of the many built-in video surveillance cameras in Tesla cars years ago – see the two photos at the bottom centre and the link to “The six cameras of the TESLA”. I found the “PUNK 1” licence plate on a red Tesla interesting (possibly from a gentleman with a steeply gelled-up head of hair who refers to himself as an “investment punk” in commercials that I am forced to watch on YouTube. Whenever this advert pops up, I can’t switch off the sound fast enough. And of course: LXRY 1 to whom LUXURY is due, of course. The photo on the bottom right also pops up when I enter the term “Tesla” into the image database – obviously a little sparrow was sitting right next to the LXRY Tesla, which then interested me at least as much as the car, which I wouldn’t even want to drive as a present, let alone own.
