Im Pokémon Center Hiroshima – gewidmet Kestutis Lapsys (1947–2021), Künstler und Pokémon-Begeisterter. Hiroshima | JP · 2025 (© PP · # 3835 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Selbstverständlich waren wir nach Hiroshima gekommen, um den Friedenspark und den „Atomic Bomb Dome“ sowie das Museum, das den Folgen des Abwurfs der ersten Atombombe aus einem US-Bomber am Morgen des 6. August 1945 gewidmet ist, zu besuchen. Der Grund der Reise nach Japan im Mai 2025 war, dass ich den Auftrag bekommen hatte, als Beitrag des Landes Kärnten für den Österreich Pavillon auf der EXPO Osaka ein Video über vier Künstlerinnen und Künstler aus Kärnten – Cornelius Kolig, Maria Lassnig, Herwig Turk und Meina Schellander – zu realisieren. Kurz vor der Abreise aus Hiroshima, gleich beim Bahnhof, fielen meinem Sohn, einem (ehemaligen) Pokémon-Experten und mir das Pokémon Center Hiroshima auf. Mein persönlicher Favorit ist das Bild links unten: Ein Mann sitzt in einem Wartebereich auf einer Holzbank, auf der eine Art Pokémon-Walross (dessen Namen ich nicht weiß) liegt.

Dieses Tableau widme ich meinem leider im Jahr 2021 verstorbenen und schmerzlich vermissten Freund Kestutis Lapsys (1947–2021), der ein begeisterter Pokémon-Devotionalien-Sammler und -Experte war, er konnte zB. Lantimos, ein ganz spezielles Pokémon frei aus dem Gedächtnis, ohne Vorlage als Geburtstagsgeschenk für meine Sohn zeichnen. Sogar die Wiener Bezirkszeitung hatte einen Bildbericht über seine Sammelleidenschaft gebracht! Immerhin! Hallo Kestutis!

Hiroshima | JP · 2025 (© PP · # 3835 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Naturally, we had come to Hiroshima to visit the Peace Park and the ‘Atomic Bomb Dome’, as well as the museum dedicated to the consequences of the first atomic bomb dropped by a US bomber on the morning of 6 August 1945. The reason for the trip to Japan in May 2025 was that I’d been commissioned to produce a video about four artists from Carinthia – Cornelius Kolig, Maria Lassnig, Herwig Turk and Meina Schellander – as Carinthia’s contribution to the Austrian Pavilion at the Osaka EXPO. Shortly before leaving Hiroshima, right by the station, my son – a (former) Pokémon expert – and I spotted the Hiroshima Pokémon Centre. My personal favourite is the picture at the bottom left: a man is sitting on a wooden bench in a waiting area, with a sort of Pokémon walrus (whose name I don’t know) lying on it.

I dedicate this tableau to my friend Kestutis Lapsys (1947–2021), who sadly passed away in 2021 and is sorely missed; he was an enthusiastic collector and expert on Pokémon memorabilia, for example, he was able to draw Lantimos – a very special Pokémon – straight from memory, without any reference, as a birthday present for my son. Even the *Wiener Bezirkszeitung* ran a photo feature on his passion for collecting! That’s quite something! Hello, Kestutis!
