Fotografie als Waffe. Info War. Esteli | NI; Paris | FR; Wien | AT · 1993–2021 (Bildnachweis s. Text · © PP · # 2320 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Die beiden monochromen Fotos habe ich in dieser Kombination erstmals in meinem 1994 erschienenen Buch „Virtual Triviality · Das Ewige Archiv“ veröffentlicht. Die formalen Analogien erschienen mir damals offensichtlich ausreichend, um die Themen Krieg, Gewalt, Nachrichten, Information und deren inhärenten Konnex fokussiert zu visualisieren. Diese Kompilation wurde auch im Rahmen der „ars electronica“ 1998 mit dem Titel „INFO WAR – information.macht.krieg“ publiziert. Die Verbindung von Fotografie und Krieg / Gewalt / Macht / Einfluss ist nahezu seit der Erfindung dieser bildgebenden Technologie auf vielen Ebenen klar gegeben, viele Weiterentwicklungen und spezielle Mechanismen entstanden im Hinblick auf militärischen Zwecke. Der Einsatz von Drohnen wäre ohne hochentwickelte Foto- / Videokameras nicht möglich. Dieses Thema einigermaßen kompakt darzustellen, würde den Umfang dieser kleinen Betrachtungen sprengen, das Tableau kann nur einige Aspekte beispielhaft beleuchten.

Zu den Fotos:

Die chronofotografische Flinte, eine Erfindung des französischen Physiologen Étienne-Jules Marey aus dem Jahr 1883, fotografiert in Paris, 2015; LEICA GEWEHRKAMERA WERNER WÜNSCH. Die legendäre Gewehrkamera des deutschen Fotoreporters Werner Wünsch der u.a. die deutschen Nazi-Kriegsverbrecher wie Albert Speer im Hof Gefängnis Spandau um 1950 fotografieren konnte, mit Astro Fernobjektiv und Leica Kamera. THORNTON-PICKARD MASCHINENGEWEHR-KAMERA MARK Ill. Die Mark Ill wurde im 1.Weltkrieg von der britischen Luftwaffe benutzt, um den Beschuss von gegnerischen Flugzeugen zu trainieren, für 4,5 x 6cm Aufnahmen auf Rollfilm. Galerie Westlicht; Fotosnaiper, Galerie Westlicht. „In der Sowjetunion fertigten die Kamerawerke Krasnogorsk ab Mitte der 1960er Jahre ein Fotogewehr unter der Bezeichnung Photosniper oder Fotosniper mit verschiedenen Varianten. Dabei handelte es sich allerdings nicht um eine chronofotografische Kamera, sondern um eine spezielle, portable Teleobjektiv-Spiegelreflexkamera mit Schulterstativ, Pistolengriff und großer Brennweite.“ (wiki); Mobiltelefon während der Aufnahme einer Himmelssituation, Wien, 2018

Esteli | NI; Paris | FR; Vienna | AT · 1993–2021 (picture credits see text · © PP · # 2320 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) I published the two monochrome photos in this combination for the first time in my 1994 book “Virtual Triviality · Das Ewige Archiv”. At the time, the formal analogies seemed to me to be sufficient to visualize the issues of war, violence, news, information and their inherent connections in a focused manner. This compilation was also published as part of the “ars electronica” in 1998 with the title “INFO WAR – information.macht.krieg”. The connection between photography and war / violence / power / influence has been clear on many levels almost since the invention of this imaging technology, many further developments and special mechanisms have emerged with a view to military purposes. The use of drones would not be possible without highly developed photo / video cameras. To present this topic in a somewhat compact way would go beyond the scope of these small considerations; the tableau can only illuminate a few aspects by way of example.

THORNTON-PICKARD MACHINE GUN CAMERA MARK Ill. The Mark Ill was used by the British Air Force during World War I to practice shooting at enemy aircraft, for 4.5 x 6 cm recordings on roll film.
