Der „Landungssteg“ von Ella Raidel. Ebensee am Traunsee | AT · 2011–2024 (© PP · # 3829 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Am weit über das Wasser des Traunsees kragenden Landungssteg, den die Künstlerin und Filmemacherin Ella Raidel vor Jahren realisierte, legen keine Schiffe an, aber er bietet zahlreiche Möglichkeiten: Man/frau kann hinaufsteigen und – über dem Wasser stehend – auf den See schauen, oder sich umdrehen und – etwas zurückgetreten – auf den Ort Ebensee und den dahinterliegenden Feuerkogel blicken. Der vielbetretene und vielbeachtete Steg ist insbesondere auch ein schönes, elegantes Objekt, eine raumgreifende Skulptur aus Stahl und Holz. Der Ort Ebensee liegt an einem Ende des Traunsees, aber er ist durch den Bau der Umfahrungsstraße in den 1970-er Jahren, vom See getrennt, abgeschnitten, der See ist nur durch eine Unterführung (li. ob.) erreichbar. Der Landungssteg von Ella Raidel ist ein Objekt, das pointiert unterstreicht, DASS Ebensee unmittelbar mit dem See verbunden ist. Als ich Kind war, haben an dieser Stelle noch, etwas nach rechts versetzt, die Boote der Traunseeschiffahrt angelegt.

Der Landungssteg von Ella Raidel war das Siegerprojekt eines Wettbewerbs für Kunst im öffentlichen Raum für diesen Standort.

Ella Raidel (* 1970 in Gmunden) ist eine österreichische Filmemacherin, Regisseurin und bildende Künstlerin. Ella Raidel studierte an der Kunstuniversität Linz. Sie promovierte 2009 mit ihrer Arbeit über den Filmemacher Tsai Ming-liang. Sie war Postdoktorandin an der Academia Sinica in Taipeh, Taiwan und erhielt das Senior-Postdoc Programm Elise-Richter-PEEK der Kunstuniversität Linz für ihr Projekt Of Haunted Spaces. Von 1994 bis 2002 lebte Raidel in Berlin und von 2002 bis 2019 in Taipeh. Seit 2019 unterrichtet sie an der Technischen Universität Singapur.

Die Künstlerin arbeitet interdisziplinär in den Medien Film, Schrift und Forschung. Sie betrachtet in ihren Werken die soziologischen und kulturellen Aspekte der Globalisierung und Urbanisierung. Ihre Filme korrespondieren mit ihren Schriften zur Erforschung der Poetik des Films. Raidel erhielt öffentliche Auszeichnungen, unter anderem 1999 das Staatsstipendium für Bildende Kunst des Österreichischen Bundesministerium für Kunst, 2003 den Preis für bildende Kunst der Stadt Linz, 2010 den Local Artist Award des Crossing Europe Filmfestivals Linz und 2022 den Outstanding Artist Award für Film vom Bundesministerium für Kunst, Kultur, öffentlichen Dienst und Sport, sowie den Award for Excellence des Image Forum Filmfestivals in Tokio.

Ebensee on Lake Traunsee | AT · 2011–2024 (© PP · # 3829 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) No boats moor at the landing jetty, which juts far out over the waters of Lake Traunsee and was created years ago by the artist and filmmaker Ella Raidel, but it offers numerous possibilities: one can climb up and – standing above the water – look out over the lake, or turn round and – taking a step back – gaze at the village of Ebensee and the Feuerkogel mountain behind it. The much-used and much-admired jetty is, in particular, a beautiful, elegant structure – a large-scale sculpture made of steel and wood. The town of Ebensee lies at one end of Lake Traunsee, but since the construction of the bypass in the 1970s, it has been separated from the lake and cut off; the lake is now only accessible via an underpass (top left). Ella Raidel’s jetty is a structure that powerfully emphasises THAT Ebensee is directly connected to the lake. When I was a child, the boats of the Traunsee ferry service used to moor at this spot, slightly to the right.

Ella Raidel’s jetty was the winning entry in a competition for public art at this location.

Ella Raidel (born 1970 in Gmunden) is an Austrian filmmaker, director and visual artist. Ella Raidel studied at the University of Art and Design Linz. She completed her PhD in 2009 with a thesis on the filmmaker Tsai Ming-liang. She was a postdoctoral researcher at the Academia Sinica in Taipei, Taiwan, and was awarded the Elise Richter-PEEK Senior Postdoc Programme at the University of Art and Design Linz for her project *Of Haunted Spaces*. Raidel lived in Berlin from 1994 to 2002 and in Taipei from 2002 to 2019. Since 2019, she has been teaching at the National University of Singapore.

The artist works across disciplines, utilising the media of film, writing and research. In her works, she examines the sociological and cultural aspects of globalisation and urbanisation. Her films correspond with her writings on the poetics of film. Raidel has received public honours, including the State Scholarship for Fine Art from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Art in 1999, the City of Linz Prize for Fine Art in 2003, the Local Artist Award at the Crossing Europe Film Festival in Linz in 2010, and in 2022 the Outstanding Artist Award for Film from the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Public Service and Sport, as well as the Award for Excellence at the Image Forum Film Festival in Tokyo.
