Aspasia und die (nicht mehr) verpackten Statuen von Schönbrunn. Wien | AT · 2012–2025 (© PP · # 3493 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Im Jahr 2012 habe ich versucht, sämtliche über die Wintersaison „verpackten“ Skulpturen der Statuenserie für das Großen Parterres des Schönbrunner Gartens zu fotografieren. Warum eigentlich? Im Nachhinein gesehen denke ich, dass das vermutlich eines der letzten Jahre war, in dem die Statuen zugedeckt waren, um sie vor der Witterung zu schützen. Vielleicht wurde das in den folgenden Jahren dann als nicht mehr notwendig erachtet – weil zu wenig Schnee – oder es war der Aufwand zu groß? Natürlich frage ich mich selbst, warum ich das damals fotografierenswert erachtet habe. Einfach machen, einfach weitermachen. Die Aufnahmen in der Mitte des Tableaux entstanden vor wenigen Tagen: Aspasia, eine der berühmtesten und gebildetsten Frauen der griechischen Antike, ist in Gestalt und mit den Attributen der Göttin Pallas Athene dargestellt. Die Skulptur ist Teil der Statuenserie für das Großen Parterres des Schönbrunner Gartens, die zwischen 1773 und 1780 unter der Leitung von Johann Wilhelm Beyer entstand. Die Statuen sind an den Seitenflächen der Sockel durchnummeriert, wobei diese Statue die Nummer 8 trägt. Auf dem Schild ist ein Relief der Medusa mit dem Schlangenkopf. (re.)

Vienna | AT – 2012-2025 (© PP – # 3493 – www.ewigesarchiv.at) In 2012, I tried to photograph all the sculptures from the statue series for the Great Parterre of Schönbrunn Gardens that had been ‘wrapped’ over the winter season. Why actually? With hindsight, I think that this was probably one of the last years in which the statues were covered to protect them from the weather. Perhaps this was no longer considered necessary in subsequent years – because there was too little snow – or perhaps the effort was too great? Of course, I ask myself why I thought it was worth photographing at the time. Just do it, just get on with it. The photos in the centre of the tableau were taken a few days ago: Aspasia, one of the most famous and educated women of Greek antiquity, is depicted in the form and with the attributes of the goddess Pallas Athena. The sculpture is part of the series of statues for the Great Parterre of the Schönbrunn Gardens, which were created between 1773 and 1780 under the direction of Johann Wilhelm Beyer. The statues are numbered consecutively on the sides of the plinths, with this statue bearing the number 8. On the shield is a relief of Medusa with a snake’s head. (right)
