Arbeit im Wahrheits-Ministerium in Zeiten von Midjourney, DALL*E, Stable Diffusion uva. I HAVE SEEN THE TRUTH AND IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE. Montréal/Montreal | CA; Wien | AT · 1988–2022 (© PP · # 2817 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Ist „Wahrheit“ darstellbar? Gibt es eine „wahre“ Darstellung der „wirklichen Wahrheit“? Was ist „wahr“, was ist „Fake“? Diese bescheidenen Fragen beschäftigen bekanntlich (ahh – eine Alliteration am frühen Morgen, sehr gut!) ja nicht nur den ewigen Archivar, sondern alle Künstler*innen, Dokumentarfilm-Macher*innen, Historiker*innen etc, die ein bisschen was auf sich halten. Die oberen beiden Bilder zeigen mich beim Versuch, für meinen Film „Mont Real“ eine „anschauliche“ Sequenz über Krieg und Gewalt zu produzieren. „Desastres de la Guerra“ im Schlafzimmer, das als Filmstudio herhalten musste in unserer kleinen Mietwohnung in Montreal im Jahr 1988: Im Hintergrund die stark vergrößerte Fotokopie eines US-Stealth-Bombers, BOMBER-Malereien darunter, ebenfalls an der Wand das vergrößerte Cover des Buches von Robert Del Tredici „At Work in the Fields of the Bomb“, ich selbst mit gegeltem Haar, Sonnenbrille, Fisch-Krawatte und Karton, auf dem in schneller Abfolge Malereien von Menschen, Bomben wechselten und eine kurze Animations-Sequenz ergaben. Wie wäre diese Szene doch einfach mit AI-Image-Apps (siehe oben) zu machen gewesen? In George Orwells „1984“ gibt es ein Wahrheits-Ministerium, dessen Mitarbeiter*innen Berichte in Büchern und Magazinen jeweils im Nachhinein an die aktuellen Richtlinien anpassen müssen.

Die Veröffentlichung von Wunschkennzeichen erfolgt ausschließlich in dokumentarisch-künstlerischem Zusammenhang und impliziert keinerlei weitere Bedeutungen und Annotationen.

„Mont Real“ 1988/89, Peter Putz

This film was produced during the nine months that Peter Putz spent as artist in residence at Concordia University inMontreal. Mont Real is a satirical view of our Western civilization, something between a live action film and an animation film, a successon of associations combining aspects of traditional and everyday life in North America and stereotyped European, particularly Austrian, attidudes and behavior patterns. The film deals with our overpowering fantasies, our tendency to repress certain elements of our mental lives, and with our enslavement as dependent consumers in a materialistic society. This is shown in a development of sound and image that is for the most part ironical and contrapuntal.

Montreal/Montreal | CA; Vienna | AT 1988–2022 (© PP # 2817 www.ewigesarchiv.at) Can “truth” be represented? Is there a “true” account of “real truth”? What is “true”, what is “fake”? As is well known, these humble questions concern not only the eternal archivist (ahh – an early-morning alliteration, very good!), but all artists, documentary filmmakers, historians, etc. who are a bit self-respecting. The two pictures above show me trying to produce a “descriptive” sequence about war and violence for my film “Mont Real”. “Desastres de la Guerra” in the bedroom that served as a film studio in our small rental apartment in Montreal in 1988: in the background the greatly enlarged photocopy of a US stealth bomber, BOMBER paintings underneath, also on the wall the enlarged cover of the Robert Del Tredici’s book “At Work in the Fields of the Bomb”, myself with gelled hair, sunglasses, fish tie and cardboard on which paintings of people and bombs alternated in rapid succession and resulted in a short animation sequence. How could this scene have been easily done with AI image apps (see above)? In George Orwell’s “1984” there is a Ministry of Truth whose employees have to adapt reports in books and magazines to the current guidelines afterwards.
