Amsterdam: Street-Art

Anne Frank als Wandbild, Paper Monuments for the Paperless & Guerrilla Knitting: Street Art in Amsterdam | NL · 2018/19 (© PP · Ewiges Archiv). Bei einem Aufenthalt im November 2018 ist mir eine Serie von Plakaten mit Holzschnitt-Portraits aufgefallen: „A series of sixty woodcut portraits of paperless refugees – printed in large quantities and pasted around cities, to give a face to the undocumented people. Get a set of posters and raise a paper monument: www.himmelsbach.nl #papermonument facebook.com/apapermonument “ Bei meinem Besuch Anfang April habe ich bei einem Besuch des NDSM-Geländes mit einer gewaltigen, ehemaligen Werfthalle, in das Studioeinbauten gemacht wurden und das von der Struktur her Ähnlichkeiten mit dem WUK hat, ein großes Wandbild gesehen mit einem Portrait, von dem ich zunächst nicht sicher wusste, wen es zeigte – ich hatte eine Ahnung, aber erst bei späterer Recherche fand ich heraus, dass es nach einem der wenigen Fotos von Anne Frank erstellt worden war. „Tagebuch der Anne Frank“.

Erinnerung an die deutsche Besatzung ist in Amsterdam (fast) allgegenwärtig: Metallplaketten an der Kaizergracht verweisen auf anliegende Häuser, aus denen Juden in Vernichtungslager des NS-Terrorregimes deportiert worden waren, es gibt ein Holocaust-Museum (das ich noch nicht besucht habe), ein Widerstands-Museum (das ich besucht habe – sehr eindrucksvoll), Denkmäler und einiges mehr.

During a visit in November 2018, I noticed a series of posters with woodcut portraits: “A series of sixty woodcut portraits of paperless refugees – printed in large quantities and pasted cities, to give a face to the undocumented people. On my visit at the beginning of April I visited the NDSM site with a massive, former shipyard hall, into which studio installations were made and similar in structure to the WUK, saw a large mural with a portrait of which I did not know who it was at first – I had a hunch, but it was not until later research that I found out that it was after one the few photos of Anne Frank had been created. “Diary of Anne Frank”.
Remembrance of the German occupation is (almost) ubiquitous in Amsterdam: metal plaques on the Kaizergracht point to adjoining houses, from which Jews were deported to extermination camps of the Nazi terror regime, there is a Holocaust museum (which I have not visited yet), a resistance museum (which I visited – very impressive), monuments and much more.
