Zum Grab von Jim Morrison pilgern und: wer kontrolliert jetzt die Medien? Paris | FR; Wien | AT · 1990–2020 (SW-Fotos © Andrea Putz; Farb-Fotos © PP · # 2479 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Das Grab von Jim Morrison, des legendären Frontmannes und Leadsänger der Rockband „The Doors“ am Pariser Ostfriedhof Père Lachaise ist eine Pilgerstätte für Rockfans – insbesondere um den Todestag, den 3. Juli 1971 herum. Ich selbst lebte und arbeitete 1990 ein halbes Jahr in einem Atelier in der Cité des arts internationale in Paris und bin am rechten großen Foto, mit Brille und gestreifter Hose, die Arme verschränkt, versonnen blickend zu sehen! Mitgenommen zum alljährlichen Trauer-/Huldigungs-/was-weiß-ich-Event hatte mich eine US-amerikanische Fotografin (links von mir, mit Foto-Tasche), die seit vielen Jahren immer um den Todestag von Morrison nach Paris kam, um das Treiben am Friedhof zu dokumentieren. Der „Mythos“ des Rocksängers strahlt aber offensichtlich international und Jahrzehnte nach seinem Tod weiter: Den Sticker (re. unten) mit seinem Gesicht und dem Statement „WHOEVER CONTROLS THE MEDIA CONTROLS THE MIND“ habe ich 2020 in Wien gesehen und fotografiert, also 30 Jahre nach meinem Besuch am Grab in Paris.

„Angaben der Friedhofsverwaltung aus dem Jahr 2004 zufolge handelt es sich bei dem Grab des Rocksängers um eine der populärsten Pariser Touristenattraktionen und um das meistbesuchte der 70.000 Gräber des Père Lachaise, auf dem zahlreiche bekannte Persönlichkeiten ruhen. Die Pariser Stadtverwaltung schätzte die Anzahl der Besucher des Grabs im Jahr 2001 auf etwa 1,5 Millionen. Nach einer ersten zeitweiligen Sperrung von Morrisons Grab 1988/1989, die keinen Rückgang des Besucherzustroms bewirkte, ist die Grabstelle seit 2004 erneut durch ein Metallgitter abgesperrt. In einer ethnologischen Feldstudie wurde das Grab als modernes Wallfahrtsziel und „polymorphe heilige Stätte“ beschrieben, an der zumindest eine der unterschiedlichen Kategorien von Besuchern spirituelle Inspiration bei Morrison als einer „Gestalt von transzendenter Bedeutung“ suche. Bei seiner Verklärung wird oft übersehen, dass der massive Alkoholkonsum und auch der Drogenmissbrauch schon nach den ersten Erfolgen sein schöpferisches Talent beschädigte. Nach den ersten Erfolgen 1967 behinderten die hohen Mengen Alkohol zunehmend seine Fähigkeit, kreative Inspirationen auszuarbeiten. In einem Teufelskreis führte der Verlust seiner kreativen Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten zu einer Steigerung des Alkoholkonsums und Drogenmissbrauchs und letztlich zu seinem Tod.^“ (wikipedia)

Paris | FRI; Vienna | AT 1990–2020 (B&W photos © Andrea Putz; color photos © PP # 2479 www.ewigesarchiv.at) The grave of Jim Morrison, the legendary frontman and lead singer of the rock band “The Doors” at the Père Lachaise East Cemetery in Paris is a place of pilgrimage for rock fans – especially around the anniversary of his death, July 3, 1971. I myself lived and worked in a studio in the Cité des arts Internationale in Paris for half a year in 1990 and can be seen in the large photo on the right, with glasses and striped trousers, my arms crossed and a dreamy look! I was taken to the annual mourning/homage/what-I-know event by an American photographer (to my left, with a photo bag) who had been coming to Paris for many years on the anniversary of Morrison’s death, to capture the To document goings-on at the cemetery. The “myth” of the rock singer obviously continues to shine internationally and decades after his death: I saw and photographed the sticker (bottom right) with his face and the statement “WHOEVER CONTROLS THE MEDIA CONTROLS THE MIND” in Vienna in 2020, i.e. 30 Years after my visit to the tomb in Paris.

“According to the cemetery authorities in 2004, the rock singer’s tomb is one of the most popular Parisian tourist attractions and the most visited of the 70,000 tombs of Père Lachaise, on which numerous well-known figures rest. Paris City Council estimated the number of visitors to the tomb in 2001 at around 1.5 million. After a first temporary closure of Morrison’s grave in 1988/1989, which did not result in a decrease in the number of visitors, the grave site has again been closed off by a metal grid since 2004. An ethnological field study has described the tomb as a modern pilgrimage destination and “polymorphic sacred site” where at least one of the various categories of visitors seeks spiritual inspiration from Morrison as a “figure of transcendent significance”. When he is glorified, it is often overlooked that the massive consumption of alcohol and drug abuse damaged his creative talent even after the first successes. After initial success in 1967, the high levels of alcohol increasingly hampered his ability to develop creative inspiration. In a vicious cycle, the loss of his creative expression led to an increase in alcohol and drug abuse, and ultimately his death.” (wikipedia)
