Wim Wenders, Filmregisseur und Fotograf. Wien | AT · 2014–2019 (© PP · Ewiges Archiv) Wim Wenders wurde bei der Pressekonferenz zur Eröffnung der Retrospektive seiner rund 50 Filme und der Ausstellung von frühen Fotografien im METRO Kinokulturhaus gefragt, welche Themen ihn denn mit 73 (noch) interessieren würden. Er meinte, grundsätzlich würden ihn Filme interessieren, die mit ganz spezifischen Personen und Orten verbunden seien, also nicht so austauschbar wie die Masse an Fiction/Fantasy-Filmen und er würde eher dokumentarisch arbeiten wollen. Das Thema „Friede“ würde ihn sehr beschäftigen – es gäbe ja eine Masse an Filmen und Büchern zu Krieg und Konflikten, aber kaum etwas zu „Frieden“ – der sei ja im Unterschied zu ersteren Themen kein Business.

Es gibt einige Filme von Wim Wenders, die mich schon sehr lange „begleiten“ – darunter mein „Im Lauf der Zeit“ – ein Road Movie in Schwarz/Weiß: Ein Mechaniker für Filmprojektoren (Rüdiger Vogler) und einer, der mit voller Fahrt mit seinem VW-Käfer in den Rhein gerast ist, fahren mit einem umgebauten Möbelwagen die (vormalige) BRD/DDR Grenze ab und machen Station in kleinen Orten in den jeweiligen kleinen Kinos. Ich denke, dass ich den Film, als er 1976 neu in die Kinos kam, zum ersten Mal im Admiral-Kino gesehen habe (damals noch kein Reprisen-Kino), seither borge ich ihn mir von Zeit zu Zeit auf DVD in der Hauptbibliothek aus und schaue ihn mir mit dem Audio-Kommentar des Regisseurs an. Ganz ganz wunderbar.

Die Fotos dieses Tableaus sind 2014 bei der Premiere des Films „Kathedralen der Kultur“ entstanden, eines Kompilationsfilms, dessen Teil über die Berliner Philharmonie von WW stammt und zum anderen bei der Pressekonferenz am 10. Jänner 2019 im Metro Kino. Das Foto unten zeigt die Donata Wenders, Fotografin und Ehefrau, während sie WW bei der Pressekonferenz aufnimmt.

Vienna | AT · 2014-2019 (© PP · Eternal Archives) Wim Wenders was asked at the press conference for the opening of the retrospective of his approximately 50 films and the exhibition of early photographs in the METRO Kinokulturhaus which subjects would (still) interest him with 73. He said that in principle he would be interested in movies that are related to very specific people and places, so not as interchangeable as the mass of fiction / fantasy films and he would rather work documentary. The topic “peace” would occupy him a lot – there would be a mass of films and books on war and conflicts, but hardly anything about “peace” – in contrast to the former topics, that would not be business.

There are some films by Wim Wenders that have been “accompanying me” for a very long time – including my “In the course of time” – a road movie in black and white: a mechanic for film projectors (Rüdiger Vogler) and one who is at full speed with his VW beetle raced into the Rhine, drive off with a converted van the (former) FRG / GDR border and make station in small towns in the respective small cinemas. I think I saw the movie for the first time in the Admiral Cinema when it first hit the cinemas in 1976 (not a reprisal cinema at the time), since then I’ve been borrowing it from time to time on DVD in the main library and watch it with the director’s audio commentary. Quite wonderful.
