Was ist „Privat“, was ist „Öffentlich“? Eine Ameise, besser: eine Motte denkt darüber nach, bevor sie in die offene Flamme zischt und verbrennt. Damtschach, Gmunden, Langwies, Offensee, Wien | AT; Hemmingsford | US; London | UK · 1973–2025 (© PP · # 3643 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Der Mann im großen Foto rechts heißt Mark Zuckerberg, er ist der (Mit-)Gründer von Facebook und wohl Hauptaktionär, demnach Mitbesitzer des Meta-Konzerns, von dem Facebook, der sogenannten „Social-Media-Plattform, auf der ich diese Zeilen und dieses Tableau, an dem ich jetzt rund 1 Stunde gearbeitet habe, „veröffentlichen“ werde. Neben ihm ist seine Frau Priscilla, eine Ärztin?, so genau weiß ich das nicht, sicher weiß ich aber, dass ich dieses Foto einer Doppelseite der Illustrierten BUNTE, deren wöchtenliche Varianten ich seit Jahrzehnten gerne durchblättere zu meinem perversen Voyeur-Vergnügen, dass ich dieses Foto vor etwa einer Woche in der Konditorei Croissböck („Die besten Krapfen Wiens“) aufgenommen habe. In das Foto der beiden ragt ein Preis-Etikett: 187 Mrd. $. Da es sich um den Bericht einer Geburtstagsfeier von „Superreichen“ handelt, gehe ich davon aus, dass die Redakteure der Illustrierten damit bekanntgeben, dass Mark Zuckerberg und seine Frau in etwa soviel Vermögen besitzen. Ich kenne weder Mark Zuckerberg noch seine Frau Priscilla persönlich, trage aber schon seit vielen Jahren einen kleinen, einen „Mikroben-Betrag“ zum Vermögen der beiden und wohl vieler anderer Mitaktionäre bei. Natürlich frage ich mich selber – auch seit vielen Jahren – warum ich das mache – kann mir aber nur recht lächerliche Antworten, Rechtfertigungen geben.

Na klar – ich „benutze“ ja FB, um mein – auch „sogenanntes“ – Ewiges Archiv zu „promoten“, um Massen auf die entsprechende website www.ewigesarchiv.at zu locken, damit sie endlich sehen, was das für riesige „Enzyklopädie zeitgenössischer Realitäten“ geworden ist, natürlich möchte ich gerne aufmerksam machen auf zB meinen neuen Film über die Künstlerin Meina Schellander, natürlich möchte ich gerne meine Gedanken über den Zustand der Welt und was mir dazu einfällt, ALLEN mitteilen. Aber: zum Preis, dass ich den minimalen Rest meiner Privatheit atomisiere. So in etwa. If you don’t pay you are the product!

What is „private,“ what is „public“? An ant, or rather, a moth, ponders this before it hisses into the open flame and burns. Next to him is his wife Priscilla, a doctor? I’m not entirely sure. What I do know for certain, however, is that I took this photo, a double-page spread from the illustrated magazine BUNTE, whose weekly editions I’ve enjoyed leafing through for decades for my perverse voyeuristic pleasure, about a week ago at the Croissböck pastry shop („The best doughnuts in Vienna“). A price tag is visible in the photo of the two of them: $187 billion. Since it’s a report about a birthday party for the „super-rich,“ I assume the magazine’s editors are announcing that Mark Zuckerberg and his wife possess roughly that much wealth. I don’t know either Mark Zuckerberg or his wife Priscilla personally, but I have been contributing a small, „microbial“ amount to their fortune, and presumably to that of many other shareholders, for many years. Of course, I’ve been asking myself this for years – why I do it – but I can only come up with rather ridiculous answers and justifications.

Sure – I „use“ Facebook to „promote“ my – so-called – Eternal Archive, to lure masses to the corresponding website www.ewigesarchiv.at so they can finally see what a huge „encyclopedia of contemporary realities“ it has become. Of course, I want to draw attention to, for example, my new film about the artist Meina Schellander. Of course, I want to share my thoughts on the state of the world and what comes to mind with EVERYONE. But: at the price of atomizing the minimal remaining bit of my privacy. Something like that. If you don’t pay, you are the product!
