„Warm“ in Wien. Von „Homo“ bis „schwul“ · “Warm” in Vienna. From “homo” to “gay”

„Warm“ in Wien. Von „Homo“ bis „schwul“, von „queer“ bis „LGBTQIA+“. Eine Begrifflichkeit in stetigem Wandel. Wien | AT · 1978–2021(© PP · # 2195 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Als ich ins Gymnasium ging, hieß es: „Das is’ ein Warmer!“, auch: „Der ist (ja) ein „warmer Bruder“! Begriffe wie „schwul“ oder „gay“ waren nicht existent. Ich kann mich auch nicht erinnern, dass „Lesbisch-Sein“ ein Thema war – zumindest nicht in Bad Ischl, wo ich in den 1970-ern in die Schule gegangen bin. Auch Gerüchte und Gerede um den aus dem Salzkammergut stammenden FPÖ-Politiker Jörg Haider – mit dem ich in die gleiche Schule ging – in Zusammenhang mit seiner angeblicher Homosexualität kamen erst in späteren Jahrzehnten in Umlauf. Einen „offen“ homosexuellen Mann lernte ich erst beim Studium in Wien kennen, freundete mich an mit ihm und bekam durch ihn Einblick in eine Szene und Kultur, die mir bis dahin völlig unbekannt war. Meine allererste Fotoausstellung hatte ich im Lokal „MOTTO“ in der Nähe des Naschmarktes, damals DEM Lokal für „Schwule“.

Das 1. Foto oben zeigt mich fröstelnd ganz in der Früh im Juni oder Juli 1978 in einem Haufen Gepäck, Bildern, Taschen. Der Maler Wolfgang Egger (1951–1991) und ich waren nach einem Jahr Studienaufenthalt in Poznan/Polen mit einem Speditions-LKW von Poznan nach Wien mitgenommen worden, es wurde exakt an dem Ort aufgenommen war, wo viel später die Rosa-Lila-Villa entstehen würde. Das Foto rechts daneben entstand 40 Jahre später, exakt an der gleichen Stelle. (Foto: © Bernhard Lemersleitner) Das Haus hinter mir war mittlerweile ab 1982 die Rosa-Lila-Villa geworden – bzw. jetzt Türkis Rosa Lila Villa.

Der Mann im großen Foto links ist Kurt Krickler, Mitbegründer des Homosexuellen Initiative HOSI und der Rosa Lila Villa. Das Foto entstand bei einer Donnerstags-Demo im Jahr 2000 gegen die damalige FPÖVP-Koalition.

Vienna | AT · 1978–2021 (© PP · # 2195 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) When I went to high school, it was said: “That’s a warm one!”, Also: “He’s (yes) a“ warm brother ”! Terms like “gay” or “gay” were non-existent. I also can’t remember “being a lesbian” was an issue – at least not in Bad Ischl, where I went to school in the 1970s. Rumors and talk about the FPÖ politician Jörg Haider from the Salzkammergut – with whom I went to the same school – in connection with his alleged homosexuality only came into circulation in later decades. I only got to know an “openly” homosexual man while studying in Vienna, made friends with him and through him got an insight into a scene and culture that was completely unknown to me until then. I had my very first photo exhibition in the “MOTTO” bar near the Naschmarkt, at that time THE bar for “gays”.
The first photo above shows me shivering early in the morning in June or July 1978 in a heap of luggage, pictures, bags. After a year of study in Poznan / Poland, the painter Wolfgang Egger (1951–1991) and I were taken from Poznan to Vienna in a haulage truck. It was taken from the exact spot where the Rosa-Lila-Villa was much later would arise. The photo to the right was taken 40 years later, in exactly the same place. The man in the large photo on the left is Kurt Krickler, co-founder of the homosexual initiative HOSI and the Rosa Lila Villa. The photo was taken during a Thursday demonstration against the then FPÖVP coalition.
