Vier Spitzpaprika, ein rotes Ericsson-Klapphandy, ein graues Nokia-Mobiltelefon, ein gelber Paprika, zwei Pfefferoni, einige Chillis. Eine sonderbare Kombination, gezeichnet im Dezember 2008 mit Ölpastell-Kreiden auf ein Stück altes Papier. Mehr nicht. Wien | AT · 2008 (© PP · # 3672 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Paprikas, Spitzpaprikas sind beliebte Vorlagen für Zeichner*innen und Fotograf*innen (Hallo Edward Weston!) – so unglaubliche Formen, Ausbuchtungen, Verquerungen, so glatte, oft spiegelnde Oberflächen, klare, starke Farben – und sie liegen dann so ruhig da! Keine Modell-Honorare zu bezahlen, keine (Ver-)Stimmungen wie bei nackten menschlichen Modellen. Die beiden Mobiltelefone, die ich – vermutlich als technischen Gegensatz – zu den pflanzlichen Vorlagen legte, waren zu der Zeit sicher nicht mehr in Gebrauch, also Technoschrott. Das rote Ericsson-Klapphandy war mein erstes Mobiltelefon, hatte mir beim Kauf in der Mitte der 1990-er Jahre gefallen, weil es klein war, eine Klappe die Tastatur verdeckte und auf Zuruf eines Namens eine Nummer selbständig anrief. Das graue Nokiatelefon war das Folgemodell, soweit ich mich erinnere. Ohne GPS, das alle Schritte aufzeichnet, ohne Internetzugang, ohne Kamera.

Four pointed peppers, a red Ericsson flip phone, a grey Nokia mobile phone, a yellow pepper, two hot peppers, a few chillies. A strange combination, drawn in December 2008 with oil pastel crayons on a piece of old paper. Nothing more. Vienna | AT · 2008 (© PP · # 3672 · www.ewigesarchiv.ats) Peppers and pointed peppers are popular subjects for artists and photographers (hello Edward Weston!) – such incredible shapes, bulges, twists, such smooth, often reflective surfaces, clear, strong colours – and they lie there so quietly! No model fees to pay, no mood swings like with naked human models. The two mobile phones that I placed next to the plant models – presumably as a technical contrast – were certainly no longer in use at the time, i.e. they were technological junk. The red Ericsson flip phone was my first mobile phone. When I bought it in the mid-1990s, I liked it because it was small, had a flap that covered the keypad and could dial a number automatically when you said a name. The grey Nokia phone was the successor model, as far as I can remember. It had no GPS to record your every step, no internet access and no camera.
