Unboxing the BILLA Rettersackerl um 3,50 €! Ebensee, Langwies | AT · 2026 (© PP · # 3832 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Ich kaufe gerne Lebensmittel knapp vor dem Ablaufdatum, die mit 25-/30-%-Aufkleber gekennzeichnet sind, ich kniee mich gerne im Geschäft vor den unteren Abteilungen in den Regalen hin, wo die verbilligten Waren sind. Natürlich finde ich die Preisersparnis reizvoll (aber: wieviele Cent „Gewinn“ sind das bei einem um 25% verbilligten Joghurt?), hauptsächlich motiviert mich aber der Gedanke, Lebensmittel zu verwenden, die eben am Tagesende weggeschmissen oder bestenfalls an Organisationen wie „Tafel Österreich“ oä. (meiner Einschätzung nach eher selten) abgegeben werden. Seit einiger Zeit habe ich für mich entdeckt, dass in manchen Supermärkten Gemüse und Obst in (teils verklebten) Papiersäcken sehr vergünstigt verkauft wird. Es sind also eine Art „Wundertüte“ im Angebot. Bisher kann ich nur die Angebote von SPAR und BILLA vergleichen: Obwohl ich traditionell eher SPAR-Käufer bin – zumindest den österreichischen Kapitalismus unterstützen! – muss ich nach meinen repräsentativen Tests zugestehen, dass das BILLA Rettersackerl hier eindeutig in Führung ist. Fast immer in den von mir bisher selten besuchten beiden BILLA Filialen (Wien und Ebensee) im Angebot und bisher durchgehend sehr gut gefüllt. Top Preisleistungsverhältnis wie der heutige Testkauf im BILLA Ebensee um wohlfeile 3,50 € beweist: Geschätzt mindestens 2 kg Erdäpfel, ein leicht angemerktes Salathäuptel, ein Bund österr. Schnittlauch, zwei Knolle, 8 Marillen, 1 Saturnpfirsich (oder wie diese Sorte heißen mag), zwei Zwetschken, 1 Kiwi (würde ich sonst nie kaufen), 1 Zitrone, 1 weiße Rübe (keine Krenwurzel!), 1 Rübe, über deren Gattung ich unschlüssig bin (Mischa Reschka???), 1 Karotte, 1 Zucchini. Find ich super!

Angeblich sind die Lidl-Pakete noch besser - aber das konnte ich noch nicht verifizieren, weil ich dem deutschen Alleineigentümer vom Lidl-Konzern auch skeptisch gegenüber stehe. Naja - werde ich wohl testen müssen.

Ebensee, Langwies | AT · 2026 (© PP · # 3832 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) I like to buy food just before its use-by date, marked with 25–30 per cent discount stickers; I enjoy kneeling down in the shop in front of the lower shelves where the discounted goods are. Of course, I find the savings appealing (but: how many cents’ ‘profit’ is there on a yoghurt reduced by 25%?), but my main motivation is the thought of using food that would otherwise be thrown away at the end of the day or, at best, donated to organisations such as ‘Tafel Österreich’ or similar (which, in my estimation, is rather rare). For some time now, I’ve noticed that in some supermarkets, fruit and vegetables are sold at very reduced prices in (sometimes taped-up) paper bags. So they’re offering a sort of ‘surprise bag’. So far, I’ve only been able to compare the offers from SPAR and BILLA: although I’m traditionally more of a SPAR shopper – at least I’m supporting Austrian capitalism! – I have to admit, based on my representative tests, that BILLA’s ‘Rettersackerl’ is clearly in the lead here. It’s almost always on offer at the two BILLA branches I’ve visited so far (Vienna and Ebensee) – which I don’t visit very often – and has consistently been very well stocked. Excellent value for money, as today’s test purchase at BILLA Ebensee for a bargain €3.50 proves: An estimated minimum of 2 kg of potatoes, a slightly blemished head of lettuce, a bunch of Austrian chives, two turnips, 8 apricots, 1 Saturn peach (or whatever that variety is called), two plums, 1 kiwi (which I’d never normally buy), 1 lemon, 1 white turnip (not horseradish!), 1 turnip, the variety of which I’m unsure about (Mischa Reschka???), 1 carrot, 1 courgette. I think it’s brilliant!

Apparently, the Lidl parcels are even better – but I haven’t been able to verify that yet, as I’m also sceptical about the German sole owner of the Lidl Group. Oh well – I suppose I’ll have to give it a go.
