Das Sumida Hokusai-Museum, die „Große Welle von Kanagawa“ und den Mist nach Hause nehmen! Tokyo | JP · 2025 (© PP · # 3506 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Das Hokusai-Museum Sumida (jap. すみだ北斎美術館, Sumida Hokusai Bijutsukan, engl. Sumida Hokusai Museum) ist ein im Tokyoter Bezirk Sumida liegendes Museum, das dem Maler Katsushika Hokusai (1760–1849) gewidmet ist. Das Museum ist ein Neubau, der 2016 eröffnet wurde. Der Bau wurde von der Architektin und Pritzker-Preisträgerin Kazuyo Sejima / Architekturbüro SANAA, entworfen.

Was mich – abgesehen natürlich von der Architektur und den Werken von Hokusai – wirklich beeindruckt hat: Es gibt im Museum keine Mistkübel (wie es auch kaum welche im öffentlichen Raum in Japan gibt) – die Besucher*innen werden aufgefordert, ihren Mist nach Hause zu nehmen (siehe Tafel re. unten.

Tableau zusammengestellt am 15. Juni 2025 und diesen kurzen Text verfasst, während Städte bombardiert, Kinder, Frauen und Männer gewaltsam sterben oder schwerst verletzt werden.

The Sumida Hokusai Museum, ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’ and taking the rubbish home! Tokyo | JP · 2025 (© PP · # 3506 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) The Sumida Hokusai Museum (Japanese: すみだ北斎美術館, Sumida Hokusai Bijutsukan, English: Sumida Hokusai Museum) is a museum located in the Sumida district of Tokyo dedicated to the painter Katsushika Hokusai (1760–1849). The museum is a new building that opened in 2016. It was designed by architect and Pritzker Prize winner Kazuyo Sejima / SANAA architectural firm.

What really impressed me – apart from the architecture and Hokusai’s works, of course – was that there are no rubbish bins in the museum (as there are hardly any in public spaces in Japan) – visitors are asked to take their rubbish home with them (see sign on the right below).
