Hofer; © PP · # 2397 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) In der Wiener Secession wurden gestern drei Ausstellungen eröffnet: Rauminstallationen der südafrikanischen Künstlerin Dineo Seshee Bopape, „How to Become A Fossil“ des New Yorker Künstler*innen Kollektivs DIS und „Still Life“ von Siggi Hofer im Hauptraum. Ich beschränke mich in dieser Bilderfolge auf „Still Life“, weil ich den Aufbau der Arbeit einige Tage hindurch begleiten durfte im Zuge der Produktion eine neuen Videos über den Künstler Reimo Wukounig. Fotos vom Beginn des Aufbaus finden sich am Ende der kleinen Serie. Siggi Hofer, geboren 1970 in Bruneck, lebt und arbeitet in Wien. Kuratorin ist Bettina Spörr.

„Mit Still Life konzipierte Siggi Hofer im Dialog mit der charakteristischen Architektur der Secession eine immersive Installation, ein großes begehbares Bild, das sich aus zahlreichen unterschiedlichen Werken zusammensetzt und in vieler Hinsicht die Unübersichtlichkeit und komplexe Realität unserer Gegenwart widerspiegelt. Als Betrachter*innen werden wir durch unsere Bewegung im Raum zu Akteur*innen und Mitgestalter*innen der Ausstellung und vor die Aufgabe gestellt, uns zu orientieren, zu ordnen und Sinnzusammenhänge herzustellen. Still Life knüpft unmittelbar an die frühere Ausstellung gift basket an, in der Hofer den Geschenkkorb als Metapher für seine Reflexionen über Beziehungen, Familie, Identität und Erinnerung nutzte. Mit Bezugnahme auf das Genre des Stilllebens wählt der Künstler wieder einen allen geläufigen Topos. Mehr noch als beim Geschenkkorb, bei dem es neben der schönen Geste um die schöne Präsentation geht, die auch pragmatisch sein muss, ist ein Stillleben vor allem von ästhetischen Fragen rund um Komposition und Farbgebung bestimmt: Welche Nachbarschaften ergeben sich, was passt zueinander und was passiert in diesen unterschiedlichen Konstellationen, was passiert, wenn man sie ändert? . . .“

Hofer; © PP # 2397 www.ewigesarchiv.at) Three exhibitions opened yesterday in the Vienna Secession: room installations by the South African artist Dineo Seshee Bopape, “How to Become A Fossil” by the New Yorker Artist collective DIS and “Still Life” by Siggi Hofer in the main room. In this sequence of images I limit myself to “still life” because I was allowed to accompany the construction of the work for a few days in the course of the production of a new video about the artist Reimo Wukounig. Photos from the beginning of the construction can be found at the end of the small series. Siggi Hofer, born in Brunico in 1970, lives and works in Vienna. The curator is Bettina Spörr.

“With Still Life, Siggi Hofer conceived an immersive installation in dialogue with the characteristic architecture of the Secession, a large walk-in image that is composed of numerous different works and in many respects reflects the confusing and complex reality of our present. As viewers, through our movement in space we become actors and co-designers of the exhibition and are faced with the task of orienting ourselves, organizing and creating contexts of meaning. Still Life ties in directly with the earlier exhibition gift basket, in which Hofer used the gift basket as a metaphor for his reflections on relationships, family, identity and memory. Referring to the still life genre, the artist again chooses a topos that is familiar to everyone. Even more than with a gift basket, which, in addition to the beautiful gesture, is also about the beautiful presentation, which also has to be pragmatic, a still life is primarily determined by aesthetic questions relating to composition and colouring: Which neighborhoods result, what goes together and what happens in these different constellations, what happens if you change them? . . .”
