Selbstportraits (Ich überwache mich am Liebsten selber) Wien | AT · 1973–2020 (© PP · Ewiges Archiv; © Google Maps (re.) Dieses Tableau mit den schleißigen Fotos macht mir große Freude und ich bin ein bisschen stolz darauf. (Archivieren ist schön, macht aber viel Arbeit! nach Karl Valentin). Das große SW-Foto ist ein Selbstportrait aus dem Jahr 1973 und es dokumentiert für mich unglaublich viel: Die 6 x 6 Kamera auf einem Stativ, Langzeitbelichtung eingestellt, den Verschluss ausgelöst, mich vor die Kamera gestellt und die Arme bewegt. Als wär’s gestern gewesen. Das Foto zeigt viel mehr: Aufnahmeort war das Kabinett meiner damaligen „Küche/Kabinett“-Untermiet-Wohnung in der Schönbrunnerstraße 101 im 5. Bezirk. Klo am Gang, Wasser gab’s in der Küche, keine Dusche. Links im Bild die Tapete mit den symbolträchtigen Mustern, rechts die mit Blumendekor „gewalzte“ Wand. Ich selbst mit schwarzem Gilet, vermutlich Restbestand eines Anzugs, und gestreifter Hose. Das große Foto rechts ist ein Screenshot von Google Maps, den ich bei einer der wenigen Suchen, die ich aus einer Laune heraus tätigte, gemacht habe und der mich restlos begeistert: es ist der Schatten einer der Streetview-Kameras, die unablässig durch die Welt streifen – es ist gewissermaßen ein „Selbstportrait“ des Überwachungssystems, das im Grunde schon die totale Kontrolle übernommen hat. Die beiden Fotos oberhalb zeigen die Kameras eines Streetview-Aufnahmewagens, dem ich vor etwa 10 Jahren mit dem Fahrrad durch den 3. Bezirk hinterhergefahren bin: Die Konstruktion bestand aus 8 hochauflösenden Nikon-Spiegelreflexkameras, die auf 2 Ebenen in verschiedenen Winkeln ausgerichtet waren, um ein maximales Aufnahmebild zu gewährleisten. Damals eben noch Spiegelreflexkameras, die in kurzen Abständen durch das Zurückklappen des Spiegels die charakteristischen Geräusche machten, heute werden sicherlich „mirrorless“-Kameras verwendet in wesentlich höherer Auflösung.

Die untere Bildreihe zeigt Selbstportraits vom Überwachungs-Monitor des SPAR-Supermarktes, bei dem ich einkaufe, aufgenommen in verschiedenen Jahren. Lustig das 2. Foto von links: Die zwei jungen Männer haben bemerkt, dass ich mich fotografiere und machten ein spontanes „Photo-Bombing“ – fand ich super! Rechts unten: Einkaufen in Zeiten der Corona – während ich fotografiere, setzen sich zwei Kunden die Masken auf.

According to Karl Valentin The large b / w photo is a self-portrait from 1973 and for me it documents an incredible amount: The 6 x 6 camera on a tripod, long exposure, released the shutter, stood in front of the camera and moved my arms – as if it were The photo shows a lot more: The location was the cabinet of my “kitchen / cabinet” sublet apartment at Schönbrunnerstrasse 101 in the 5th district. There was a toilet in the hallway, there was water in the kitchen, no shower Wallpaper with the symbolic patterns, on the right the wall “rolled” with floral decor. Myself with a black gilet, probably remnants of a suit, and striped pants. The large photo on the right is a screenshot from Google Maps that I found during one of the few searches which I did on a whim and which I am completely enthusiastic about: it is the shadow of one of the street view cameras that constantly roam the world – it is, so to speak, a “self-portrait” of the surveillance system, which basically already has total control take over. The two photos above show the cameras of a street view vehicle that I followed my bike through the 3rd district about 10 years ago: The construction consisted of 8 high-resolution Nikon SLR cameras, which were oriented at different angles on 2 levels to ensure a maximum recording image. Back then, single-lens reflex cameras, which made the characteristic noises at short intervals by folding back the mirror, today “mirrorless” cameras are certainly used with a much higher resolution. The lower row of images shows self-portraits from the surveillance monitor of the SPAR supermarket where I shop, taken in different years. The 2nd photo from the left is funny: The two young men noticed that I was taking a picture and did a spontaneous “photo bombing” – I thought it was great! Bottom right: Shopping in times of the Corona – while I take photos, two customers put on their masks.
