Schweinsgalopp im Prater: 1 Spiel 20.– (Schillinge) und der Auer-von-Welsbach-Park. Wien | AT · 2001 (© PP · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Oft bedauere ich, dass ich Ende der 1990-er Jahre/Anfang der 2000-er Jahre mit kleinen Digitalkameras mit ganz geringer Auflösung und schlechter Optik fotografiert habe. Die Qualität war damals natürlich klar viel, viel schlechter als die der Fotos mit den „analogen“ Nikons und der Rolleiflex, mit der ich vorher fotografiert hatte – aber ich war begeistert vom digitalen Spielzeug, von der Unmittelbarkeit, mit der die Aufnahme sichtbar wurde, von der Anzahl der Aufnahmen, die dann später möglich wurden – der Kleinbildfilm war mit 36 Aufnahmen beschränkt, die 6 x 6 cm Rolleiflex mit 12 Aufnahmen. Jetzt, 20 Jahre später hätte ich natürlich liebend gerne scharfe, gut durchgezeichnete Scans von den Negativen oder Dias statt dieser unscharfen, weichen digitalen Bilder, die ich hochrechnen und herrichten muss, damit sie einigermaßen verwendbar werden. Trotzdem: ich freue mich über diese drei Aufnahmen dieser Praterbelustigung, die heute als Spiel ein Kuriosum darstellt. Keine Ahnung, wie genau der Spielablauf war, vermutlich konnte man auf ein bestimmtes Schweinchen setzen etc. Als Preise gabs Stofftiere in unterschiedlichen Größen. Soviel ist klar: 1 Spiel kostete 20.– Schilling. Die „Spielleiterin“ hält übrigens einen Zwanzig-Schilling-Schein in ihrer rechten Hand. Sujet: Portrait Carl Auer von Welsbach, der den Glühstrumpf erfunden hatte und nach dem ein Park in Wien benannt ist.

Ich musste selbst nachschauen, wann in Österreich der Euro als Bargeld eingeführt wurde: am 1. Jänner 2002.

The quality at that time was of course much, much worse than that of the photos with the “analog” Nikons and the Rolleiflex, with which I had previously photographed – but I was enthusiastic about the digital toy, the immediacy with which the picture was visible on the number of shots that were later possible – the 35mm film was limited to 36 shots, the 6 x 6 cm Rolleiflex with 12 shots. Now, 20 years later, I would of course love to have sharp, well-traced scans of the negatives or slides instead of those blurry, soft digital images that I have to extrapolate and prepare so that they are reasonably usable. Nevertheless: I am happy about these three shots of this Prater amusement, which today represents a curiosity as a game. I don’t know how exactly the game played, you could probably bet on a certain pig, etc. The prizes were stuffed animals in different sizes. That much is clear: 1 game cost 20.– Schilling. Incidentally, the “game manager” holds a twenty schilling note in her right hand. Subject: Portrait of Carl Auer von Welsbach, who invented the mantle and after whom a park in Vienna is named. I had to look for myself when the euro was introduced as cash in Austria: on January 1st, 2002.
