Schöner Schimmel – Nicht wegwerfen! (Und kleiner Schlenkerer zu einem Werbespot und dem Erdbeben in Marokko) Langwies, Wien | AT · 2002–2023 (© PP · # 2941 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Ab und zu, wenn ich überlege, zu welchem Thema ich ein Tableau aus dem Ewigen Archiv zusammenstellen will, fällt mir eines ein, das mir zwar gefällt – aber fast im gleichen Moment denke ich mir: ist das nicht völlig dekadent und lächerlich, mich mit dem zu beschäftigen – angesichts einer Tragödie wie dem Erdbeben in Marokko und Tausenden Toten? Widersprüche begleiten mein leben von der Geburt bis zum Tod – unausweichlich. Gestern fanden in einem Studio neben mir Dreharbeiten für einen 30-sekündigen Werbespot statt: ein Team von etwa 50 Personen war einige Stunden an der Arbeit, um eine Sequenz von vier Sekunden zu drehen. Nachdem ich selber in einem anderen Leben einige Werbespots gedreht habe, habe ich eine Ahnung, in welcher Höhe das Budget für diese Produktion ist (Besser nicht dran denken). Jedenfalls war ich gebeten worden, mein Studio als Aufenthaltsbereich für Agentur, Kunden und Make-Up zur Verfügung zu stellen, was ich tat. War eine dichte, freundliche und entspannte Stimmung – alles sehr nette Leute. Ich kochte Kaffee, stellte Zwetschken auf den Tisch und stelle dafür den Betrag von 200 € in Rechnung. Die ersten 50 € habe ich soeben an SOS-Kinderdorf – Nothilfe Erdbeben Marokko überwiesen, der Rest kommt an andere Hilfs-Organisationen. Nein, es ist mir überhaupt nicht peinlich, das hier zu schreiben.

Zum Tableau:

Das große Foto links zeigt eine Situation, die ich bei einem Künstler vor 20 Jahren gesehen habe. Schimmel in der Kunststellt Restaurator*innen in jeder Beziehung vor große Herausforderungen. zB Dieter Roths Schokoladeskulpturen – deren Verschimmelung ja ein Teil des Werkgedankens ist. Soll der Schimmel gestoppt, die Skulptur konserviert werden?

(And a little diversion to a commercial and the earthquake in Morocco) Langwies, Vienna | AT · 2002–2023 (© PP · # 2941 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Every now and then, when I think about the topic on which I want to put together a tableau from the Eternal Archive, I think of one that I like – but almost at the same moment I think to myself: isn’t it completely decadent and ridiculous to bother with this – in the face of a tragedy like the earthquake in Morocco and thousands of deaths? Contradictions accompany my life from birth to death – unavoidable. Yesterday there was filming for a 30-second commercial in a studio next to mine: a team of about 50 people worked for a few hours to shoot a four-second sequence. Having shot a few commercials myself in another life, I have an idea what the budget for this production is (better not think about it). Anyway, I was asked to make my studio available as a lounge area for the agency, clients and make-up, which I did. It was a close, friendly and relaxed atmosphere – all very nice people. I made coffee, put plums on the table and charged the amount of €200. I have just transferred the first €50 to SOS Children’s Villages – Emergency Aid for the Morocco Earthquake, the rest will go to other aid organizations. No, I’m not embarrassed at all to write this.
About the table:
The large photo on the left shows a situation I saw with an artist 20 years ago. Mold in art poses major challenges for restorers in every respect. e.g. Dieter Roth’s chocolate sculptures – the moldiness of which is part of the idea behind the work. Should the mold be stopped and the sculpture preserved?
