Probeliegen am Friedhof Ebensee? Ebensee am Traunsee | AT · 1973–2025 (© PP · # 3573 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Die Bestattung Wien bietet am Tag der offenen Türe – sollte wohl besser heißen: am Tag der offenen Särge – ein „Probeliegen“ in einem (vermutlich bei Besucher*innen-Andrang: mehreren) Sarg bzw. Särgen an. Diesen Service möchte ich derzeit nicht unbedingt in Anspruch nehmen, aber ab + an überlege ich mir, die Gravur in den Grabstein für mich selbst zu entwerfen – immerhin emeritierter Meistergrafiker. Der verbliebene Platz will gut genützt werden, aber ich möchte dann doch im Corporate Design der Familie bleiben, das der Steinmetz für das Grab meiner Familie vor Jahrzehnten vorgegeben hat, andererseits nicht allzuviel Platz einnehmen. Mit Titel oder ohne Titel? Voran- oder hintan gestellt? Sicher ohne Berufsbezeichnung, eventuell mit dem Ewiges Archiv-Signet? Oder isses völlig Wurscht, wirklich total Blunzn?

Sicher ist, dass der Friedhof in Ebensee am Traunsee, dem Ort in dem ich geboren bin und in dem ich begraben sein möchte, der schönste meiner Welt ist. Blick auf den Ort und die umliegende „Bergwelt“ und Blick zum Feuerkogel.

Das SW-Foto links war bzw ist der Auslöser für dieses Tableau – aus mehreren Gründen. Zum Einen: weil’s das älteste Foto ist, das ich am bzw. vom Friedhof gemacht habe: es ist aus dem Jahr 1973, zum Anderen: es ist ein Foto mit einer Rolleiflex 6 x 6 Kamera, der zweiäugigen – das Format jedes Bildes am Negativ ist 6 x 6 cm, also ganz schön groß, kann sehr hochauflösend gescannt werden. Diese Aufnahme war jedenfalls die letzte auf dem Filmstreifen, den ich damals selbst entwickelt habe. Das sehe ich daran, dass an der Unterseite, bei genauer Betrachtung, zwei feine Kreise sind, entstanden und eingeprägt durch die Filmklammer, das Gewicht, das angeklammert wurde, damit sich der Film beim Trocknen nicht aufrollt, sondern „ausgestreckt“ bleibt.

Erstaunlich, dass ich sterben muss. Sehr sonderbar (nein – eh nicht jetzt oder morgen – nein, habe keine lebensbedrohende Krankheit, zumindest wüsste ich nichts davon – aber trotzdem . . .).

Ebensee am Traunsee | AT · 1973–2025 (© PP · # 3573 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) On open day – or perhaps better yet, open coffin day – the Vienna Funeral Service offers a „test burial“ in one (or, given the crowds, probably several) coffins. I don’t necessarily want to use this service at the moment, but every now and then I consider designing the engraving on the gravestone for myself – after all, I’m a retired master graphic designer. The remaining space needs to be used well, but I still want to stick to the family’s corporate design, which the stonemason specified for my family’s grave decades ago, while at the same time not taking up too much space. With or without a title? Placed at the front or back? Certainly without a job title, perhaps with the Ewiges Archiv logo? Or does it not matter at all, really a total nonsense?
What is certain is that the cemetery in Ebensee am Traunsee, the place where I was born and where I would like to be buried, is the most beautiful in my world. A view of the town and the surrounding „mountain world,“ and a view of the Feuerkogel.
The black and white photo on the left was and is the trigger for this tableau – for several reasons. Firstly, because it’s the oldest photo I took at or of the cemetery: it dates back to 1973. Secondly, it’s a photo taken with a Rolleiflex 6 x 6 camera, the twin-lens camera – the format of each image on the negative is 6 x 6 cm, which is quite large and can be scanned in very high resolution. In any case, this shot was the last one on the film strip, which I developed myself back then. I can tell this from the fact that, upon closer inspection, there are two fine circles on the underside, created and imprinted by the film clamp, the weight that was clamped to ensure that the film didn’t roll up while drying, but remained „stretched out.“
It’s amazing that I have to die. Very strange (no—not now or tomorrow anyway—no, I don’t have a life-threatening illness, at least I don’t know of any—but still . . .).
