Opa, Oma und Mutti im Schnee. Zwei von 2266 „Schnee-Fotos“. Ebensee, Langwies | AT · zw. 1946/50–1973 (© PP · # 2709 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Obwohl noch sehr früh am Morgen und also noch finster, sehe bzw. spüre ich eine dünne Schneeschicht auf den alten, schrägen „Atelierfenstern“ meines Studios. Ah, hat’s geschneit. Ich bin altersgemäß einer von denen, die am Land im Winter mit viel Schnee aufgewachsen sind. Es gab immer Schnee, oft sehr viel Schnee (Ende Retro-Talk). Die Bild-Datenbank angeworfen und schlicht „Schnee“ als Suchbegriff eingesetzt: Ergebnis: Carolee Schneemann 1; Schnee 2266; Schneefräse 5; Schneekanone 4; Schneekugel 1; Schneelandschaft 1; Schneemann 11; Schneeschaufel 2 (die Zahlen sind die Anzahl der Fotos, die unter diesen Begriffen gespeichert bzw zu finden sind). Also dann Kopfsprung in das Department „Schnee“, in dem viele Möglichkeiten für Tableaux, also Zusammenstellungen sich anbieten, zB: Spuren im Schnee (Blut, Pisse), tote Tiere im Schnee, meine bunt bemalten Kabeltrommeln im Schneematsch auf der Mollardgasse, das Cornelius-Koligsche-Paradies im Winter uvm. Schließlich aber bleibe ich bei einem an sich unspektakulären, leicht sepiagetöntem Foto hängen, das ich aus einem kleinen Familien-Fotoalbum einst reproduzierte: Mein Opa Johann, meine Oma Aloisia, ihre Tochter Erna – eigentlich Ernestine – Promberger bei einer Wanderung im Schnee, alle drei lächeln und blicken in den auf sie gerichteten Fotoapparat. Opa hat einen Hut auf, die Hände in den Manteltaschen, unter dem linken Armeetwas Helles eingeklemmt. Meine Oma im langen dunklen Mantel, der helle Fleck auf ihrer Brust möglicherweise eine Schneeflocke(?) jedenfalls denke ich nicht, dass sie etwas am Mantel angesteckt hatte, ihre Tochter, meine spätere Mutter im hellen Mantel mit dunklem Kragen. Wann wurde diese Aufnahme gemacht? Ich gehe davon aus, dass sie sicher nach dem Ende des Krieges entstanden ist, meine Mutter ist 1926 geboren, sie könnte auf diesem Foto etwa 20 bis 25 Jahre alt sein – also schätze ich, dass es zwischen 1946 und 1950 gemacht wurde. Wo diese Wanderung stattfand, kann ich nicht erkennen – ich war immer schon schlecht in Geographie. Sollte jemand eine Idee dazu haben, würde ich mich über Nachricht freuen.

Das Foto rechts habe ich etwa 1973 mit einer 6 x 6 Rolleiflex im Winter in Langwies aufgenommen. An den braunen Ledermantel mit Lammfell(?)-Futter kann ich mich gut erinnern, auch an den goldenen Armreifen, den ihr ihr zweiter Mann geschenkt hatte. Ein gutes Portrait von ihr, finde ich, eine Erinnerung an einen kurzen Moment.

Ebensee, Langwies | AT between 1946/50–1973 (© PP # 2709 www.ewigesarchiv.at) Although it’s still very early in the morning and therefore still dark, I can see and feel a thin layer of snow on the old, sloping “studio windows” of mine Studios. Ah, it snowed. For my age, I’m one of those people who grew up in the country with lots of snow in winter. There was always snow, often a lot of snow (end of retro talk). Launched the image database and simply used “snow” as the search term: Result: Carolee Schneemann 1; snow 2266; snowblower 5; snow cannon 4; snow globe 1; snow landscape 1; snowman 11; Snow Shovel 2 (the numbers are the number of photos stored or found under those terms). So then jump into the “Snow” department, in which there are many possibilities for tableaux, i.e. combinations, e.g.: tracks in the snow (blood, piss), dead animals in the snow, my brightly painted cable drums in the slush on Mollardgasse, the Cornelius – Koligsche paradise in winter and much more. In the end, however, I get stuck with an actually unspectacular, slightly sepia-toned photo that I once reproduced from a small family photo album: my grandpa Johann, my grandma Aloisia, her daughter Erna – actually Ernestine – Promberger on a hike in the snow, all three smile and look into the camera pointed at them. Grandpa has a hat on, his hands in his coat pockets, something light-colored tucked under his left arm. My grandmother in a long, dark coat, the light spot on her chest possibly a snowflake(?) at least I don’t think she had anything on her coat, her daughter, my future mother, in a light-colored coat with a dark collar. When was this recording taken? I assume it was probably taken after the end of the war, my mother was born in 1926, she might be around 20-25 years old in this photo – so I’m guessing it was taken between 1946 and 1950. I can’t tell where this hike took place – I’ve always been bad at geography. If anyone has an idea, I’d be happy to hear from you.
I took the photo on the right around 1973 with a 6 x 6 Rolleiflex in winter in Langwies. I remember the brown leather coat with lambskin (?) lining very well, as well as the gold bracelets that her second husband had given her. A good portrait of her, I think, a memory of a brief moment.
