Die MINOLTA RD-175 – meine allerallererste Digitalcamera! Ein Prachtstück der bescheidenen Sammlung des Ewigen Archivs! Wien | AT · 1997–2025 (© PP · # 3424 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Warum die Einbrecher in mein Studio im Jahr 2014 die große, von der Statur her beeindruckende MINOLTA RD-175-Kamera nicht in ihre Sporttaschen und/oder Rucksäcke packten, entzieht sich meiner Kenntnis. Alles andere, was verhältnismäßig klein und Mitnahme-kompatibel war – alle Nikons und andere Kameras, die Eumig N-8 mm Filmkamera, iPad des Sohnes, die goldene Uhr meines Großvaters uvm – nahmen sie mit, (fast) nur meine etwas klotzige erste Digitalcamera blieb da. Vermutlich waren sie exzellent ausgebildete und erfahrene Spezialist*innen und wussten, dass mit dieser Kamera nur Aufnahmen in 5 MB (in PS geöffnet!) möglich sind. Diese MINOLTA kam etwa 1995 auf den Markt und kostete damals rund 50.000 öS – ich hatte sie aber nicht gekauft, sondern 1997 von der Firma Minolta im Tausch gegen Workshops für Mitarbeiter*innen zum Thema digitale Fotografie und Bildbearbeitung bekommen. Ursprünglich hatte sie mir mein damaliger IT-Betreuer Thomas N. geborgt, ich war so begeistert, dass ich alles daran setzte, eine zu kriegen. Diese Kamera hatte keinen LED Monitor und die Bilder wurden auf eine kleine Harddisk (untere Reihe, 3. Foto) gespeichert, die 131 MB Kapazität hatte. Die Fotografien wurden mit einem SCSI-Kabel zum Computer übertragen.

Das große Foto links zeigt die RD-175 mit einigen anderen digitalen Compact-Cameras, die sich im Laufe der Jahre, Jahrzehnte hierorts angesammelt haben. Viele davon hatte ich im Tausch von diversen Firmen wie Minolta oder Kyocera erhalten.

Die beiden Fotos oben rechts nahm ich im WestLicht. Schauplatz für Fotografie auf, wo eine MINOLTA RD-175 ausgestellt war.

Der Text zur ausgestellten Kamera: „Die Minolta RD-175 war die erste kompakte, professionelle digitale Spiegelreflexkamera. Bis 1995 hatten alle digitalen Kameras ein großes, externes Speichersystem. Es gab zwar schon einfache digitale Kameras, die aber eine sehr geringe Auflösung hatten.

They took everything else that was relatively small and compatible – all the Nikons and other cameras, the Eumig N-8 mm film camera, my son’s iPad, my grandfather’s gold watch and much more – with them, leaving (almost) only my somewhat bulky first digital camera behind. They were probably excellently trained and experienced specialists and knew that this camera could only take pictures in 5 MB (opened in PS!). This MINOLTA came onto the market around 1995 and cost around 50,000 öS at the time – but I didn’t buy it, I got it from Minolta in 1997 in exchange for workshops for employees on digital photography and image processing. My IT supervisor at the time, Thomas N., had originally lent it to me and I was so enthusiastic that I did everything I could to get one. This camera had no LED monitor and the images were stored on a small hard disc (bottom row, 3rd photo) with a capacity of 131 MB. The photographs were transferred to the computer using a SCSI cable.
The large photo on the left shows the RD-175 with some other digital compact cameras that have accumulated here over the years, decades. I had received many of them in exchange from various companies such as Minolta or Kyocera.

The text about the camera on display: ‘The Minolta RD-175 was the first compact, professional digital SLR camera. Until 1995, all digital cameras had a large, external storage system. Although there were already simple digital cameras, they had a very low resolution.
