Im Lift mit Jakob Lena Knebl und Ashley Hans Scheirl, Vertreter*innen Österreichs bei der Biennale di Venezia 2022. Wien | AT · 2017 (© PP · # 2446 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Anlässlich der Eröffnung der Biennale. Diese Aufnahmen entstanden im Anschluss an die Eröffnung der Ausstellung „OH, . . . JAKOB LENA KNEBL UND DIE MUMOK SAMMLUNG! Double Feature Regular“ im mumok - Museum moderner Kunst Wien im März 2017 im Lift der grauen, mich immer wieder aufs Neue beklemmenden Architektur des Ausstellungs-Gebäudes. Als gelehriger und begeisterter Schüler von Diane Arbus, August Sander und Johann Promberger fragte ich selbstverständlich artig & höflich, ob ich die beiden fotografieren dürfe. Sehr charmant bei den Aufnahmen finde ich die Spiegelung des Fanzine-Fotografen – also von mir selber – im Glas der engen Lift-Kabine.

DIE INSTALLATION IM ÖSTERREICHISCHEN PAVILLON
Jakob Lena Knebl und Ashley Hans Scheirl greifen die Gegebenheit der symmetrisch angelegten Architektur des Österreichischen Pavillons auf, der durch einen Säulengang getrennt und gleichzeitig verbunden ist. Die zwei Haupträume tragen jeweils die Handschrift einer*eines der beiden Künstler*innen. Die Einzelpositionen bleiben unterscheidbar und sind gleichzeitig miteinander in regem Austausch. So flottieren Materialien, Operationsweisen, Symbole und Formen zwischen den beiden Inszenierungen, werden gedoppelt und gespiegelt. In den Seitenpavillons wird durch eine gespiegelte, illusionistische Raumsituation das Künstler*innenduo markiert.

JAKOB LENA KNEBL AND THE MUMOK COLLECTION! Double Feature Regular” at mumok – Museum of Modern Art Vienna in March 2017 in the lift of the gray architecture of the exhibition building that oppresses me again and again. As a docile and enthusiastic student of Diane Arbus, August Sander and Johann Promberger, I naturally asked politely if I could photograph the two. I find the reflection of the fanzine photographer – i.e. of myself – in the glass of the narrow lift cabin very charming in the shots.

THE INSTALLATION IN THE AUSTRIAN PAVILION Jakob Lena Knebl and Ashley Hans Scheirl take up the symmetrical architecture of the Austrian Pavilion, which is separated and connected at the same time by a colonnade. The two main rooms each bear the signature of one of the two artists. The individual positions remain distinguishable and at the same time are in lively exchange with each other. Materials, operational methods, symbols and forms float between the two stagings, are duplicated and mirrored. In the side pavilions, the artist duo is marked by a mirrored, illusionistic spatial situation.
