(Mitte re.); alle anderen: © PP · Ewiges Archiv) Mit dem Werk der US-amerikanischen Fotografin Diane Arbus hat mich mein BE-Professor GoAl Nowak im Gymnasium Bad Ischl bekannt gemacht, dem ich dafür und für viele Anregungen dankbar bin. „Identical Twins, Roselle, New Jersey, 1967“ ist eine der bekanntesten Arbeiten der Fotografin: „Identical Twins depicts two young twin sisters, Cathleen and Colleen Wade, standing side by side in matching corduroy dresses, white tights, and white headbands in their dark hair. Both stare into the camera, one slightly smiles and the other slightly frowns. . . . The twins were seven years old when Arbus spotted them at a Christmas party for twins and triplets. The twins' father once said about the photo, "We thought it was the worst likeness of the twins we'd ever seen.“ (wiki) Dieses Foto wurde oft zitiert bzw. „reenacted“ – ua. von Stanley Kubrick in seinem Film „The Shining“, nachgestellt auch von John Malkovich (s. link unten)

Mich selbst verbindet mit diesem Foto folgende Geschichte: Ende der 1970-er Jahre habe ich gemeinsam mit Hans Kienesberger die auf Glasnegativen hinterlassenen Fotografien meines Großvaters Johann Promberger aus der Zeit von 1905–1925 „aufgearbeitet“, habe die Glasnegative kontaktkopiert und über die Fotografien recherchiert. Eine Reihe dieser Fotografien wurde bei einer Ausstellung in Bad Ischl über die von Kienesberger, Walter Pilar und mir gegründete Text-Bild-Edition „Der Traunseher“ gezeigt. Dabei wurden die Fotografien vom Kurator der „Sammlung Fotografis Länderbank“ gesehen, der sich sehr dafür interessierte. Nach einem Gespräch bot er mir an, für eine in Vorbereitung befindliche Publikation über Johann Promberger ein Inserat zu schalten (2.000 Schilling) – ich konnte mir ein Sujet aus der Sammlung, die von Anna Auer gegründet worden war aussuchen und wählte „Identical Twins“ (gr. Foto links.) Das Foto links oben zeigt Diane Arbus während einer Lecture an der Rhode Island School of Art, 1968. Das große Foto rechts zeigt zwei Figurinen aus der Sammlung von Rudolf Schmutz.

The following story connects me with this photo: At the end of the 1970s, I worked with Hans Kienesberger on the photographs of my grandfather Johann Promberger left on glass negatives from 1905–1925, copied the glass negatives and researched the photographs , A number of these photographs were shown at an exhibition in Bad Ischl about the text-picture edition “Der Traunseher” founded by Kienesberger, Walter Pilar and me. The photographs were seen by the curator of the “Fotografis Länderbank Collection”, who was very interested in them. After a conversation, he offered to place an advertisement for a publication in preparation for Johann Promberger (2,000 schillings) – I was able to choose a subject from the collection founded by Anna Auer and chose “Identical Twins” ( gr.
