Hier entsteht keine Hommage mehr an Hedy Lamarr: Die Pleite-Ekstase der Signa Holding von René Benko auf der Mariahilferstraße. Weiter geht’s: YOU GOT THIS. August 2023 veröffentlichte, damals mit folgendem Text: „ In der Mariahilferstraße in Wien entsteht derzeit ein Luxushotel-/Kaufhaus-Komplex der Signa-Holding (gr. Foto re.) Vorher stand an dieser Stelle das Kaufhaus Leiner (1. Reihe, 3. Foto). Die Signa Holding hatte dieses an prominenter Stelle stehende Gebäude und die Möbelhandelskette KIKA erworben, die wertvollen Immobilien werden „entwickelt“, KIKA wurde um 3 Euro verkauft, vor wenigen Wochen ging KIKA in Konkurs, 1.600 Mitarbeiter*innen wurden arbeitslos. Der im Entstehen begriffene Gebäudekomplex wird LAMARR heißen, wie große Visualisierungen, Fotos und die Beschriftungen der Bauzäune ankündigen. „Hedy Lamarr (eigentlich Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler; (* 1914 Wien–† 2000 Casselberry, Florida) war eine österreichisch-amerikanische Filmschauspielerin und Erfinderin. Nach Beginn ihrer Filmkarriere in Österreich wurde sie ab Ende der 1930er Jahre zum Hollywood-Star. Für ihre Erfindung, eine Funkfernsteuerung für Torpedos, die sie im Zweiten Weltkrieg im Dienste der US Navy und der Alliierten zu entwickeln begann, wurde sie im Jahr 2014 in die National Inventors Hall of Fame aufgenommen. Bekannt geworden ist sie durch den tschechoslowakisch-österreichischen Film Ekstase von 1933, der aufgrund seiner Nacktszenen ein Skandal wurde. Aber nicht nur die zehnminütige Nacktszene – ein Bad in einem See und der anschließende Gang nackt durch einen Wald – sorgte für Aufsehen, sondern vor allem eine Liebesszene, in der lediglich ihr erregtes Gesicht zu sehen war – sie spielte einen Orgasmus. Offensichtlich hat die Signa Holding die Namens und Persönlichkeitsrechte erworben und benennt jetzt einen Gebäudekomplex nach Hedy Lamarr.
„Ein neu errichtetes Luxus-Warenhaus der KaDeWe Group an der Wiener Mariahilfer Straße am ehemaligen Standort eines Möbelgeschäftes wird den Namen Lamarr tragen. Hedy Lamarr soll unter anderem mit einem Museumscafé gewürdigt werden, Kuratorin soll die ehemalige Direktorin des Jüdischen Museums Wien, Danielle Spera, werden. Die Eröffnung ist für 2024 geplant.“

Mittlerweile ist nicht nur KIKA in Konkurs, sondern auch die Signa Holding von René Benko (nähere Details dazu und zu den „Mitwirkenden“ erspare ich mir an dieser Stelle).
Der Text an einer der Tafeln zur Absperrung der Baustelle lautet (re. oben): „GEBOREN IN WIEN. GEFEIERT IN DER WELT. Sie gilt als geheimnisvollster Mythos Hollywoods. Als schönste Frau der Welt. Mit ihrer Nacktheit sorgte sie für einen Skandal. Ihre Filme brachen Rekorde, Männerherzen und Tabus. Und machten sie zur Diva der Traumfabrik. Doch die gebürtige Wienerin war so viel mehr als Glamour und ein exotischer Akzent.
Was kaum jemand weiß: Nach Drehschluss folgt sie ihrer großen Leidenschaft, dem Erfinden. HIER ENTSTEHT EINE HOMMAGE AN HEDY LAMARR.“
Anstelle der Hommage gibt’s eben jetzt eine riesige Werbung für adidas: „SUPERCOMFORT“ als gigantischen CALSI-Druck, in der darunterliegenden Nische der stillgelegten Baustelle ein LED-Display mit „YOU GOT THIS“.
Irgendwann platzt mir mein Schädel – was aber gesamt gesehen völlig Wurscht ist.“

Prague | CZ; Vienna | AT – 1933-2024 (film still from: © Filmarchiv Austria, Ekstase, Gustav Machatý (1933) © PP – # 3208 – www.ewigesarchiv.at) Here is the continuation of a tableau that I published on 11 August 2023, at that time with the following text: ” In Mariahilferstraße in Vienna, a luxury hotel/department shop complex is currently being built by Signa-Holding (large photo on the right) Previously, the Leiner department stores’ stood on this site (1st row, 3rd photo). Signa Holding had acquired this prominent building and the furniture retail chain KIKA, the valuable real estate is being “developed”, KIKA was sold for 3 euros, a few weeks ago KIKA went bankrupt, 1,600 employees became unemployed. (see link).
The building complex currently under construction will be called LAMARR, as announced by large visualisations, photos and the lettering on the construction fences. “Hedy Lamarr (actually Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler; (* 1914 Vienna-† 2000 Casselberry, Florida) was an Austrian-American film actress and inventor. After beginning her film career in Austria, she became a Hollywood star at the end of the 1930s. She was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2014 for her invention, a radio remote control for torpedoes, which she began developing in the service of the US Navy and the Allies during the Second World War. She became famous for the Czechoslovak-Austrian film Ekstase from 1933, which became a scandal due to its nude scenes. However, it was not only the ten-minute nude scene – a bath in a lake and the subsequent walk naked through a forest – that caused a sensation, but above all a love scene in which only her aroused face could be seen – she played an orgasm. Signa Holding has apparently acquired the name and personal rights and is now naming a building complex after Hedy Lamarr.
“A newly built luxury department stores’ of the KaDeWe Group on Vienna’s Mariahilfer Strasse on the former site of a furniture shop will bear the name Lamarr. Hedy Lamarr will be honoured with a museum café, among other things, and the curator will be the former director of the Jewish Museum Vienna, Danielle Spera. The opening is planned for 2024.”

In the meantime, not only KIKA has gone bankrupt, but also René Benko’s Signa Holding (I’ll spare you more details on this and the “contributors” here).
The text on one of the boards cordoning off the construction site reads (top right): “BORN IN VIENNA. CELEBRATED IN THE WORLD. She is considered Hollywood’s most mysterious myth. The most beautiful woman in the world. Her nudity caused a scandal. Her films broke records, men’s hearts and taboos. And made her the diva of the dream factory. But the Vienna-born actress was so much more than glamour and an exotic accent.
What hardly anyone knows is that after filming ended, she pursued her great passion, inventing. THIS IS A TRIBUTE TO HEDY LAMARR.”
Instead of the homage, there’s now a huge advert for adidas: “SUPERCOMFORT” as a gigantic CALSI print, with an LED display with “YOU GOT THIS” in the niche of the disused building site below.
At some point, my head is going to burst – but overall, it’s completely irrelevant.”
