Fleischkonsum in Österreich (Global 2000 – gute Zusammenfassung zum Thema!) „Fleisch ist eines unserer Hauptnahrungsmittel, wird in Hülle und Fülle in jedem Supermarkt auch schon zu sehr günstigen Preisen angeboten und ebenso viel nachgefragt. Doch was macht das mit unserer Umwelt, unserem Klima und was bedeutet es für die Landwirtschaft? Die Auswirkungen des wachsenden Fleischkonsums sind verheerend. Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts lag der globale Fleischkonsum noch bei 10 kg pro Kopf und Jahr, in den 60er-Jahren stieg er auf über das Doppelte und mittlerweile sind wir bei 40 kg pro Person angekommen. Die weltweite Fleischproduktion hat sich somit in den letzten 60 Jahren vervierfacht, Tendenz weiterhin steigend. . . “

Meat consumption in Austria (Global 2000 – good summary on the subject!) “Meat is one of our main foodstuffs, is available in abundance in every supermarket at very reasonable prices and is in great demand. But what does this do to our environment, our climate and what does it mean for agriculture? The effects of growing meat consumption are devastating. At the beginning of the 19th century, global meat consumption was 10 kg per head and year, in the 1960s it more than doubled and we have now reached 40 kg per person. Worldwide meat production has quadrupled over the past 60 years, and the trend is still increasing. . . “
