Grüße aus Adelaide – das ist mein neues Leben! Extrabonus: Anmerkungen zum Video „Mermaids, Mirror Worlds“ von Karrabing Film Collective in der Kunsthalle Wien und zu einem Film von Werner Herzog. Adelaide | AU · 1958 (Foto © N.N. · Tableau © PP · # 2175 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Vor einiger Zeit wurde mir von einem befreundeten Künstler in OÖ. ein Karton mit Fotos zur Sichtung übergeben, die er aus einem Bauernhaus, das ausgeräumt wurde, „gerettet“ bzw. einfach mal aufgehoben hatte. Darunter waren auch rund 30 Aufnahmen, die offensichtlich ein nach Australien Ausgewanderter den Daheimgebliebenen Ende der 1950-er Jahre geschickt hatte. (mehr Tableaux dazu s. link) Dieses Foto finde ich besonders interessant, darum gebe ich ihm eine Solo-Performance: Die SW-Aufnahme einer Straßenszene, eindrucksvoll und „dramatisch“ gestaffelt bzw. gegliedert. Es eröffnet den Blick auf eine Kreuzung, in der linken Ecke zwei Passantinnen, die möglicherweise darauf warten, die Straße überqueren zu können. Ein Drittel des Fotos nehmen die Straße und die Autos ein. In Australien ist Linksverkehr, von rechts, groß im Vordergrund ein schwer wirkender Wagen, vielleicht ein Taxi (Schild auf der linken Vordertüre). Von links ein Mercedes(?), in der Mitte der Kreuzung, fast im „Goldenen Schnitt“, ein offener Sportwagen – ein „roadster“ mit Weißwandreifen. Der rechts sitzende Fahrer hält seinen auf die Aurotüre gelegten Arm, als würde er ein Handzeichen zum Abbiegen geben. Im Mittelteil des Fotos Beschriftungen von Geschäften und Häuserwänden. Am Haus ganz links, schwer leserlich: . . .LIMITED, oberhalb des Sportwagens ROYAL, etwas weiter rechts: EXCHANGE und ganz rechts am Eckhaus LAWRENCE TOBACCO STORE. Sehr prägnant an der Hauswand eine Werbung für MILLER ANDERSON. CARPETS HOME FURNISHERS. IMPORTERS ADELAIDE LONDON AND NEW YORK. (deshalb gehe ich davon aus, dass diese Straßenszene in Adelaide aufgenommen wurde, nicht in Sydney). Das Wort direkt unter MILLER ist nur zum Teil lesbar, ich konnte es nicht ergänzen und habe darum Shawn Bryan um Rat gebeten. Shawn ist Schriftsteller und ein, wie ich finde, großartiger Übersetzer, er ist in den USA geboren, hat Linguistik und vieles mehr studiert, jahrelang in Paris gelebt, war Assistent des Pantomimen Marcel Marceau und kann unglaubliche Geschichten erzählen. Er hat die Texte meiner Ewigen Archiv Bücher ins Englische übersetzt , darunter auch einen Text von Marlene Streeruwitz und arbeitet seither immer wieder für diese Schriftstellerin. Er schrieb mir: „The word under "Miller Anderson" on the Australian wall-ad is "Drapers" as far as I can tell. A "draper" is merchant who deals in cloth and/or clothing.“

In der Kunsthalle Wien ist derzeit die interessante Ausstellung mit dem etwas mysteriös/kapriziösen Titel „and if I devoted my life to one of its feathers?“ zu sehen, darunter auch die 30-minütige unglaublich eindrucksvolle Video-Installation „Mermaids, Mirror Worlds“ vom Karrabing Film Collective. Allein diese ist einen Besuch wert. Das Karrabing Film Collective ist eine Gruppe von Film- und Kunstschaffenden, von denen die meisten Indigenen Gemeinschaften der Nordwestküste Australiens angehören.

Tableau © PP # 2175 www.ewigesarchiv.at) Some time ago, an artist friend of mine in Upper Austria. handed over a box with photos for viewing, which he had “rescued” or simply picked up from a farmhouse that had been cleared out. These included around 30 recordings that an emigrant to Australia had apparently sent to those who stayed at home at the end of the 1950s. (For more tableaux, see link) I find this photo particularly interesting, which is why I am giving it a solo performance: The b / w recording of a street scene, impressively and “dramatically” staggered or structured. It opens up a view of an intersection with two passers-by in the left corner who may be waiting to cross the street. A third of the photo is taken up by the road and the cars. In Australia there is left-hand traffic, from the right, a heavy-looking car in the foreground, maybe a taxi (sign on the left front door). From the left a Mercedes (?), In the middle of the intersection, almost in the “golden section”, an open sports car – a “roadster” with whitewall tires. The driver seated on the right holds his arm on the aura door as if he were giving a hand signal to turn. In the middle part of the photo, lettering from shops and house walls. On the far left of the house, difficult to read:. . .LIMITED, above the ROYAL sports car, a little further to the right: EXCHANGE and on the far right at the corner house LAWRENCE TOBACCO STORE. A very concise advertisement for MILLER ANDERSON on the wall of the house. CARPETS HOME FURNISHERS. IMPORTERS ADELAIDE LONDON AND NEW YORK. (so I’m assuming this street scene was filmed in Adelaide, not Sydney). The word directly under MILLER is only partially legible, I couldn’t complete it, so I asked Shawn Bryan for advice. Shawn is a writer and, in my opinion, a great translator, he was born in the USA, studied linguistics and much more, lived in Paris for years, was assistant to the mime artist Marcel Marceau and can tell incredible stories. He has translated the texts of my Ewige Archiv books into English, including a text by Marlene Streeruwitz and has worked for this writer again and again ever since. He wrote to me: “The word under” Miller Anderson “on the Australian wall-ad is” Drapers “as far as I can tell. A “draper” is a merchant who deals in cloth and / or clothing.”

The interesting exhibition with the somewhat mysterious / capricious title “and if I devoted my life to one of its feathers?” Is currently on view at the Kunsthalle Wien, including the 30-minute incredibly impressive video installation “Mermaids, Mirror Worlds “From the Karrabing Film Collective. This alone is worth a visit. The Karrabing Film Collective is a group of filmmakers and artists, most of whom are indigenous communities on the northwest coast of Australia.
